The Vogue Theatre, part of Vancouver’s Granville Entertainment District, is a National Historic Site of Canada and hosts numerous shows and events year-round.
The Vogue Theatre in Downtown Vancouver
The large “Vogue” sign on Granville Street is one of the most iconic sights of downtown Vancouver. The Vogue Theatre is located at 918 Granville Street, just a block away from the Orpheum Theatre and the Commodore Ballroom.
Like the Commodore, the Vogue is designed in the Art Deco style, which is an early 20th century French look that emphasized sleek, streamlined buildings. Constructed in the 1940s, the Vogue hosts concerts, comedy shows, movie screenings and more.
The theatre was named a National Historic Site of Canada in 1993. It’s one of the few remaining buildings of Granville Street’s old “Theatre Row”.
Events at the Vogue
The Vogue is one of the premier performing venues in Vancouver. There are over 1,100 seats and the theatre hosts shows of all kinds. Big events like the Vancouver International Jazz Festival use the Vogue as one of their performance spaces.

History of the Building
The Vogue Theatre first opened its doors in 1941. While initially operated by Canadian Odeon Theatres (now Cineplex Odeon), from the beginning the venue was designed to not just do movie screenings but live shows as well.
A few years after its designation as a National Historic Site, the Vogue received a large-scale restoration in 1998 to return it to (and preserve) its original look. Those upgrades included the installation of a new light and sound system for live events.
In the 2010s the owners of the Vogue steered the venue towards primarily hosting live events like concerts and comedy shows. It’s one of the largest venues of its kind in Vancouver.
