February 2024 Highlights
February is generally a quieter month than average with respect to festivals and events. In 2024, however, there is more happening than there has been in a number of years. In addition to Valentine’s Day and the Family Day Long Weekend, this year there are also Lunar New Year celebrations. The Vancouver International Wine Festival also starts in February this year (which is early than in the past couple of years).
Other major events in February include the Vancouver Boat Show, Just for Laughs Comedy Fest and Earlybird RV Show. The PuSh Performing Arts Festival and Dine Out Vancouver Festival both start in January, but also continue into the first few days of February.
Other highlights of the month include FAN EXPO Vancouver, the All Dressed in White Bridal Show and Fort Langley Historic Half Marathon. In 2024, there is also Space Explorers: The Infinite. It’s a space-themed virtual reality attraction at Vancouver’s Rocky Mountaineer Station. At Capilano Suspension Bridge there is Love Lights. It features beautiful Valentine’s Day-themed decorations and lights at night.
Lunar New Year Activities in February
The Year of the Dragon starts on February 10th in 2024. Lunar New Year celebrations include the Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade. There is also LunarFest and The Lantern City. Other interesting places to visit during the season include the International Village Mall and Chinese Canadian Museum, both of which are in the heart of Chinatown.
Rainy Day Activities in February
February is typically yet another rainier-than-average month. For that reason, indoor venues are great places to visit. For people looking for fun, there are virtual reality game centres like Zero Latency. At it you can battle zombies and aliens at locations in Vancouver and Langley. There are also museums like the Vancouver Maritime Museum and Britannia Mine (the latter of which is part outdoors, but also has tons of things to see indoors as well as underground).
February is also a popular time to see shows. The Chor Leoni Men’s Choir, Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir and Early Music Vancouver all have concerts this month. For sports fans, there are Canada Rugby Sevens games. For people who like comedy and live theatre, there are shows at The Improv Centre on Granville Island.
Other Outdoor Activities in February
The free ice skating at Robson Square and the Shipyards in North Vancouver also continue until the end of February (weather permitting). The winter holiday displays and illuminations at Lights at Lafarge are also up until the end of the month.
Other fun activities to do in February are outdoor adventure games with Vancouver Mysteries and walking tours with Forbidden Vancouver. The ropes courses at WildPlay in Maple Ridge also start up for the season on weekends. There are also snow sports at Lower Mainland Ski Hills (if they manage to get some snow and colder weather).
