October 2024 Highlights
Major happenings in October include the Thanksgiving Weekend, Fort Langley Cranberry Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, Diwali Fest and Latin American Heritage Month events. There are also Corn Mazes and Pumpkin Patches to explore, and autumn leaves to enjoy in the region’s various Parks & Places in Nature.
A number of Oktoberfest and other beer-themed events happen this month, including Harvest Haus in Vancouver and Oktoberfest at the Austria Vancouver Club in Richmond. In 2024 there are also family-friendly Circo Osorio Circus shows in Richmond and Coquitlam aw well as Cirque du Soleil in Vancouver.
October is of course also the month of Halloween. Top places to enjoy the spooky season include HowlOver at FlyOver Canada, Harvest Days at VanDusen Gardens, and Fright Nights in the City of Vancouver. On the North Shore there is Canyon Frights at Capilano Suspension Bridge and up the Sea to Sky Highway there is FANG-Tastic Halloween at Britannia Mine.
In the Fraser Valley there is Brinkworth Dungeon in Langley, Reapers Maze of Terror and Petey’s Pumpkin Patch in Chilliwack, and Maan Farms Haunted Mazes and Maan Farms Pumpkin Patch in Abbotsford. There is also Dreadworks Haunted House and Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors in Surrey.
Spooky walking tours in October include Grave Tales in Fort Langley and the Lost Souls of Gastown with Forbidden Vancouver. They are both lots of fun! For people who like horror movies, there is also the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival. For folks who like nightclubs, there are Halloween Activities for Adults and Vancouver Halloween Boat Parties.
A number of great markets take place in October. Many farmers markets are still happening, including ones in Burnaby and West Vancouver. There are also artisan markets, including Made in the 604 Markets and the Nightmare Before Christmas Market.
Other fun activities to do in October are outdoor adventure games with Vancouver Mysteries and ropes course adventures with WildPlay Maple Ridge.
It usually rains a fair bit in October. Not always (like not in 2022 which was unusually warm), but most years. On rainy days, museums are popular places to visit. Some of the region’s best include the Vancouver Maritime Museum, Chinese Canadian Museum and Britannia Mine. There is also the Museum of Surrey, Fraser River Discovery Centre and a variety of other great museums. On rainy days, comedy shows at The Improv Centre on Granville Island are also popular.
Other great things to do in October when the weather is good include exploring the region’s Parks & Nature. There are also walking tours with Forbidden Vancouver, outdoor adventure games with Vancouver Mysteries, and ropes course activities with WildPlay Maple Ridge, plus so much more!
