Drone light shows are becoming increasingly common in Vancouver and the rest of the Lower Mainland. They are fun entertainment and affordable.
The drones can be very tightly choreographed, and in most cases there is no charge for the public to see the show. They are also arguably more environmentally friendly than fireworks.
Lower Mainland Drone Light Shows
Multiple drone light shows take place in Vancouver and the surrounding region. These types of shows can be used either as a replacement for fireworks or as a fun way to add some extra flare to an event.
Drone shows aren’t a new thing in the Lower Mainland, they’re just becoming more popular and common. A series of drone light shows take place this year. Keep reading to learn where and when.

Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair
The Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair is an annual event in Surrey on the Victoria Day long weekend. In 2026 the festivities take place from May 14th to 18th. The five-day event features everything from rodeo competitions and amusement rides to food trucks and live entertainment.
This year also features two Rodeo Drone Shows. The first takes place at 10:00 pm on Friday, May 15th, following a headline show by K-OS. On Sunday, May 17th, there’s another drone show at 9:20 pm which is just before The Road Hammers take the stage.
For ticket details and more information, see our page about the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair.
Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival
In 2025 the Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival took place at False Creek from June 20th to 22nd. It does not look like a drone show happened at last year’s event. 2026 details are to be confirmed.
A couple of years ago the festival featured a drone light show on the first day. It was a celebration of Vancouver, the festival and Chinatown. There were traditional Chinese elements mixed in with Squamish art, all synchronized with a music soundtrack.
One of the best parts of the Dragon Boat Festival is that it’s always free to attend. Everyone is welcome to go down to False Creek and enjoy the races. Watch a video of the 2024 drone show on Vimeo. Hopefully a similar show returns in the future.
See our Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival article for more details about the event.
Canada Day Shows
Canada Day festivities take place all over the region on July 1st. Last year there were two places that had evening drone shows.
Chilliwack hosted a Clearview Demolition Drone Show to cap the evening’s entertainment. The show happened at Exhibition Park. Also on July 1st, there was a drone light show at 10:15 pm over McLeod Athletic Park in Langley.

Celebration of Light Fireworks Festival
One of Vancouver’s most popular events is the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks competition at English Bay. The 2025 festival took place on July 19th, 23rd and 26th, with fireworks on each of those nights. An electric drone light show took place before the main event each night.
Unfortunately, the Celebration of Light festival is happening on a smaller scale in 2026. This year’s event will likely take place on just one day in August, and without a drone show. Exact details, however, are to be confirmed.
See our article about the Celebration of Light Fireworks Festival for more information.

Abbotsford Airshow
The Abbotsford Airshow is an annual event that takes place near the end of the summer. The 2026 dates are August 7th to 9th at 1595 Townline Road near the Abbotsford Airport.
The event is all about great aerial performances. Last year there was a drone show on top of all the planes. The show took place at 9:30 pm on the evening of the Friday. Hopefully this is the case again in 2026. Exact details are to be confirmed.
