Canada Day in Chilliwack

The City of Chilliwack hosts an annual Canada Day celebration at Townsend Park. The event includes live entertainment, food trucks and other activities.

Canada Day Event in Chilliwack

There are Canada Day events in most Lower Mainland communities on July 1st, and Chilliwack is no exception. The city hosts an evening of free performances and other activities each year. The night usually ends with fireworks, although not in 2023 due to fire restrictions in the region.

In 2023 there were lots of festivities to enjoy in Chilliwack on July 1st. There were pancake breakfasts from 8:00 am until 11:00 am at Evergreen Hall (9291 Corbould Street) and Fire Hall #1 (45950 Cheam Avenue). There were also free movies between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm at Cottonwood 4 Cinemas, located at 45380 Luckakuck Way. Local recreation centres offered free ice skating and swimming sessions at select times, and there was also a Canada Day Parade at 1202 Kosikar Road starting at 11:00 am.

Evening Event Details

In 2023 Chilliwack’s main Canada Day event took place on Saturday, July 1st. The festivities ran from 5:00 pm until just after 10:00 pm. Admission is free. 2024 will likely be the same.

The main event is held at Townsend Park, located at 45130 Wolfe Road in Chilliwack. If you’re driving to the event, the closest parking lot is on the west side of the park at 44920 Wolfe Road. Another lot is open across the street at the Chilliwack Coliseum, so at 45323 Hodgins Avenue. Lots of people attend the event, so arrive early or expect to park further away.

Townsend Park Activities

The 2023 event began at 5:00 pm. There were opening ceremonies and live performances between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm. This past year’s stage schedule is listed below. This year’s lineup will likely be comparable.

The event last year featured a beer garden for adults, plus food trucks and several activity booths. There were representatives from the Blue Heron Nature Reserve, Chilliwack Military Museum, Chilliwack Search & Rescue, and the City of Chilliwack. People in the park were able to learn about wildlife, check out military equipment and tour the inside of fire trucks.

There was also a Kids Zone at the last year. It featured face painting and balloon twisting stations, a photo booth, parkour course, arts and crafts, and more. Various princesses made appearances and there were also yoga opportunities.
