Just past Jericho Beach in Kitsilano, as you’re heading west towards Point Grey and UBC, you come to Vancouver’s beautiful sandy Locarno Beach.
This is yet another of a string of stunning sandy beaches lining the coast from Kitsilano to Spanish Banks and beyond.
Where is Locarno Beach?
Locarno Beach stretches along English Bay in Vancouver. Located in the West Point Grey area, it sits between Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks. The beach takes its name from Locarno, the site where a notable peace agreement was concluded in 1925.
Beautiful Locarno Beach
What’s special about Locarno Beach? Well, it’s beautiful and sandy, plus it’s on one of Metro Vancouver’s best bicycle and walking path – one that connects Locarno (in the middle) with both Spanish Banks and Jericho beaches.
Locarno is a quiet beach. In fact, it’s been designated so. You won’t hear loud music playing here, so it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Families with young kids will especially enjoy this small beach as it offers ample space for the little ones to play. There are picnic tables dotted around the beach and you can also barbecue in certain areas. An all-round great area to enjoy a sunny day at the beach.
As with its neighbouring beaches, there are amazing views of English Bay (the body of water, not the beach), the North Shore Mountains and Vancouver in the distance from Locarno Beach.
Locarno is home to six volleyball courts, picnic tables and a concession stand. There is also usually a swimming raft out in the water. There are lifeguards too, though only from Victoria Day (in late May) to Labour Day (in early September).
If you like beautiful sandy beaches, you’ll love Locarno (especially in the summer).
TIP: If you need to find parking in the area, try the bottom of Trimble Street. There’s a small parking lot there that’s free.
