Bear Grease Musical at Centennial Theatre in 2024

One of the top shows taking the stage at Centennial Theatre this fall is Bear Grease. Workshopped and first premiering in Alberta, Bear Grease has toured around Canada and the northern United States. The show has a special one-night performance in North Vancouver on November 8th, 2024.

The show is a retelling of the classic musical film Grease, but done from the perspective of Indigenous characters. There’s still music, dancing and comedy, but done in a modern way that adds a new cultural flair to the story.

Bear Grease is created by the Indigenous hip hop duo LightningCloud. The actors and others involved in the production are a mix of Canadians and Americans, but all of them are Indigenous. It’s a very authentic show that draws on lived experiences, and represents Indigeneity in a proud way.

If you liked the musical Grease, then you’ll likely love this show too! And if you’ve not seen Grease, then why not see Bear Grease? You get to experience the story while supporting some Indigenous artists, many of whom are Canadian.

Admission to see Bear Grease at Centennial Theatre is $60, or $50 for folks who are Indigenous veterans (as November 8th is National Indigenous Veterans Day in Canada). The show begins at 7:00 pm and runs for a little under two hours.

Several events take place at the venue each month, including everything from touring musicals and concerts to school plays and graduation ceremonies.

Located at 2300 Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver, Centennial Theatre is about two dozen blocks up the hill from the Shipyards District and the SeaBus Terminal at Lonsdale Quay. It’s an easy 15-minute bus ride from the SeaBus.
