Holiday Cheer at the Pier is a Christmas-themed community event with Santa and family-friendly activities at Port Moody’s Rocky Point Park on November 30th.
It’s not a huge event, but it’s nice for local young families and people in the community.
Holiday Cheer at the Pier in Port Moody
Most years Holiday Cheer at the Pier takes place on the first Saturday in December. In 2019, however, it happened on Saturday, November 30th, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Unfortunately, the event didn’t take place in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. It did, however, happen in 2021.
At the event in 2019 there was a miniature train, photo opportunities with Santa, craft activities for kids, live entertainment and Christmas lights to admire on the pier. Some years carol ships with pretty illuminations also make an appearance out in the water.
The event was similar in 2021. This past year the event happened on Saturday, December 4th, between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
Holiday Cheer at the Pier is a free event and can attract over 1000 people. Although free, donations of unwrapped toys for the Port Moody Fire-Rescue’s Toy Drive are greatly appreciated. (Toys donated at the event usually go to needy families through SHARE Family & Community Services.)
In normal years, Holiday Cheer at the Pier happens at the Rocky Point Pier and Boat Launch (in the 2800 block of Murray Street) at Rocky Point Park. Activities typically run from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, but the holiday lights don’t get switched on until around 6:30.
When the event happens, cookies and hot chocolate are served, carolers sing, little kids can ride the Candy Cane miniature train around the parking lot, and families can get their photos taken with Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus. It’s a free, family-friendly community event.
