Overview of Metro Vancouver
With a population of 2.3 million, Metro Vancouver is Canada’s third largest city, and arguably its most beautiful.
The region boasts stunning mountains views, ocean beaches, an abundance of nature, and all the amenities of a major urban centre.
The City of Vancouver itself has a population of just over 600,000 and is the largest of 22 municipalities in Metro Vancouver.
Other major municipalities include Burnaby, Richmond and Surrey, and popular areas of interest for both tourists and locals include the North Shore and communities like Fort Langley and White Rock, among others.
Incorporated as a city in 1886, Vancouver is home to Canada’s largest and busiest port. Major industries include IT/software technology, aerospace, video game development and film making, and the city is home to major forest and mining company head offices.
Vancouver is also a major tourism destination, with close to 9 million visitors to the region per year.
