Canada Day in Surrey
The Surrey celebrations are one of the largest Canada Day events in the Lower Mainland and are especially popular with young families during the day and people of all ages at night.
Highlights of Canada Day in Surrey include the amusement rides and fireworks every year. As many as 75,000 people attend the event. Except for the rides, the festivities are free.
Where and When
Surrey Canada Day celebrations are at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre which is located at 17728 64th Avenue by the Cloverdale Fairgrounds at the corner of 176th Street & 64th. The venue is a nice, large grassy field, which makes it a perfect place for the carnival rides and free outdoor concerts.
The event typically runs from 10:00 am until 10:30 pm. Live entertainment happens throughout the day and the fireworks blast off at about 10:15 pm.
TIP: If it’s a sunny day take lots of sunscreen, water and a hat as it can be hot and there isn’t a lot of shade.
Visit the City of Surrey‘s website for the most up-to-date details about this event.
Surrey Canada Day Activities
Things to do at Surrey’s Canada Day celebrations include carnival rides, kids’ activities, live entertainment and the evening’s fireworks. There are usually also more than 30 food trucks. Adults can enjoy craft beer and wine at the event’s beer garden. There’s also an Indigenous Village where people can learn about First Nations’ culture and shop from local vendors.
Canada Day Amusement Rides
Canada Day in Surrey is one of the few July 1st events in the Lower Mainland that features serious carnival-style amusement rides.
Other Canada Day event venues might have bouncy castles and inflatable slides for little kids, but in Surrey there’s usually a Ferris Wheel, the Zipper and Zero Gravity, among other attractions.
Tickets for the amusement rides at Surrey’s Canada Day event cost around $1.50 and the rides geared towards children require between three and five tickets each. The adult rides cost between four and seven tickets each. Books of 20 tickets are also available for $30, and books of 40 cost $50.
Amusement Ride Tips
TIP #1: To avoid the longest lineups, hit the rides early in the day. By the afternoon the place is pretty busy.
TIP #2: Ride tickets are non-refundable, so be sure to use them up well before the fireworks start at the end of the day.
TIP #3: If you find you can’t use up all your tickets, it’s good to know that the tickets don’t expire. You can use them again next year, or at a Shooting Stars Amusements event at another time (like at the Abbotsford Agrifair in August on the BC Day long weekend).

Surrey Canada Day Fireworks
Surrey is one of a few places in the Lower Mainland where you can see Canada Day fireworks. The pyrotechnics start at 10:15 pm each year and although not quite as extensive as the displays at Canada Place in downtown Vancouver used to be (until they got permanently cancelled), they are always still impressive.
