Jaguars, MGs, Triumphs and hundreds of classic British cars are on display at VanDusen Botanical Garden during the Vancouver All British Field Meet.
2021 EVENT POSTPONED
Due to COVID-19, the car show has been postponed. Had it not been for the pandemic, the event at VanDusen Garden would have happened on May 22nd and the event at Whistler would have happened on May 23rd. Both events have been cancelled, at least for that weekend. Hopefully the events can happen some other time later this year. Details, however, are to be confirmed.
To learn more about the status of the car shows see the Western Driver website.
Vancouver All British Field Meet
Thousands of car enthusiasts attend the All British Field Meet (ABFM) when it occurs one day each year on the Victoria Day Long Weekend.
In 2020 the show was going to take place on Saturday, May 16th, from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, it got cancelled. In 2021 the event was scheduled to happen on Saturday, May 22nd. It too got cancelled, or at least postponed until later in the year.
For information about the event, visit Westerndriver.com.
About the Car Show
Justifiably dubbed “The Greatest Show on British Wheels,” the Vancouver All British Field Meet has been taking place in Vancouver on the Victoria Day Long Weekend since 1985. In 2021 it celebrates its 35th anniversary!
What to Expect
On display at the event are Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Jaguars, Austins, Minis, MGs, Lotuses, Rovers, Aston Martins, Triumphs, McLarens and several other classic models. In all, there are usually between around 450 and 500 British cars and motorbikes! It’s a car lovers’ paradise!
Also at the All British Field Meet each year are a brass band, pipe band, food trucks, vendor booths and sponsor information.
After the show at VanDusen Garden, on the following day, up to 100 or so of the classic vehicles head up to Whistler to participate in the All Brit Run, where once again they are on display. See below or click All-British Vancouver-Whistler Run for details.
Admission to the ABFM
In 2019, tickets purchased online prior to May 11th cost $16.93 for adults, $13.75 for seniors, $11.62 for youth (ages 13-18), $7.38 for children (ages 5-12) and $38.15 for a family for four. These prices were all-inclusive of online fees and taxes. After May 10th, prices were slightly more. 2021 prices will likely be similar.
This is a great deal as it includes admission to beautiful VanDusen Botanical Garden and the cars are amazing.
If you love either cars or gardens, the day of the Vancouver All British Field Meet is an exceptional time to visit VanDusen.
All-British Vancouver-Whistler Run
Each year, following the Saturday car show at VanDusen Garden, many of the same vehicles participate in the All-British Vancouver-Whistler Run which turns into the All British Car Show when it gets to Whistler.
In 2020 the Whistler event was going to take place on May 17th and, as it has been in the past, it was going to be a part of the annual Whistler Go Fest Outdoor Festival. Because of the coronavirus, however, both the car show and the festival got cancelled. In 2021 Whistler Go Fest is happening as an online event. The car show component, however, has been postponed until a later date.
In years when there isn’t a pandemic, this second car show usually takes place on the Sunday starting in the parking lot at Park Royal mall in West Vancouver. From there the cars head up the Sea to Sky Highway for a second show at the Creekside Plaza in Whistler Village.
The Vancouver-Whistler All-British Run usually goes from about 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Cars begin to gather at Park Royal mall at around 9 o’clock in the morning and head out at around 10:30.
Upon reaching Whistler around 65 or more of the cars are then on display in the Whistler Creekside Village Plaza until around 3:00 pm.
Admission for spectators at both Park Royal and Whistler is FREE. The event at VanDusen Garden is the one you definitely don’t want to miss, however, although the display of cars at Whistler is also fun and impressive. At Park Royal there are cars to see in the parking lot, but it’s not an actual event. At Whistler there are up to about 100 cars, and at VanDusen Gardens there are as many as 500 cars and sometimes even more!
Check out our video of the Vancouver All British Field Meet. Photos featured are from events in recent past years. The place looked very similar in 2019. It’s amazing!
