Built in the early 1900s, the Mackin House Museum is a historic house located about 25 kms from Vancouver. It’s across the street from Mackin Park in Coquitlam.
Mackin House in Coquitlam
Mackin House is located in Coquitlam’s historic Maillardville neighbourhood at 1116 Brunette Avenue. Across the street is Mackin Park, which hosts the Festival du Bois in the spring. The building is also next door to Place des Arts, the arts centre that offers performing and visual arts programs and classes.
Mackin House was home to the General Manager of Fraser Mills, which, at the time, was the largest mill of its kind in the British Empire.
Expect to spend between 10 and 30 minutes at Mackin House. It’s a great place to visit after enjoying the Festival du Bois or on your way somewhere else, like to IKEA just down the way. The house is an interesting place to visit while you’re in Coquitlam.
The museum offers a number of events throughout the year, in addition to exhibits. For example, offered on Saturday, January 24th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and on Thursday, February 26th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in 2026, drop by for guided nature sketching sessions. These are free sessions where senior in-residence, Merril Hall, guides you in sketching nature, drawing inspiration from Mackin House Museum’s surrounding gardens. Novice sketchers are encouraged to attend. Click the Coquitlam Heritage Society website for further details and to RSVP.
