Canada Day Fireworks

Canada Day celebrations in Port Coquitlam include music, food, beverages and a fireworks finale out at Castle Park on July 1st.

Most of the festivities during last year’s Canada Day celebrations happened at Castle Park. The pancake breakfast and fishing derby, however, were at Lions Park.

Canada Day Celebrations in Port Coquitlam

After a couple of years of more muted celebrations due to the pandemic, July 1st festivities in Port Coquitlam were back in 2022 and again in 2023. In 2024, Canada Day festivities happen on Monday, July 1st.

2023’s events began early with a pancake breakfast at 8:00 am. Following that there was fishing, live music performances, plenty of food and drinks, and a fireworks show in the evening. These events will likely be the same in 2024 but with exact details to be confirmed.

Where and When

The day typically begins with the pancake breakfast in Lions Park hosted by the Lions Club from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. The park is located at 2300 Lions Way. The day’s main festivities then take place in Castle Park which is at 2252 Castle Crescent, about five kilometres away.

The Castle Park events usually take place from 12:00 pm until 10:00 pm. At last year’s celebrations, there was a free shuttle service set up on Canada Day to take riders from Port Coquitlam Station to Castle Park. This service may or may not happen again in 2024. Details are to be confirmed.

Canada Day Activities

As mentioned above, the day begins with a pancake breakfast in the park. There is then a fishing derby open to all and free for those under the age of 10.

At Castle Park, once the day’s main festivities get underway, there are a series of song and dance performances, food trucks, a beer garden, marketplace, art zone, game area, a spray park for the younger folks and a fireworks finale.

There were about six food vendors announced for the 2023 event including a lobster food truck as well as one serving Persian food. Food truck vendors for 2024 are to be confirmed. Four different breweries last year supplied the beer garden which was for those who were ages 19+.
