Remembrance Day in New Westminster

One of Metro Vancouver’s largest Remembrance Day ceremonies is at the cenotaph outside New Westminster’s City Hall on November 11th.

In 2025 the New Westminster civic event runs from 10:25 am to 12:30 pm at the City Hall Cenotaph on Royal Avenue. The parade begins near the Royal Westminster Regiment Armouries at 530 Queens Avenue and makes its way to City Hall before the service starts.

November 11th, 2025, in New Westminster

Each year, New Westminster residents gather to honour those who gave their lives in service to Canada. The City of New Westminster hosts the 2025 ceremony with Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 2 and the Royal Westminster Regiment.

Wreath pick-up begins at 9:00 am on the City Hall front lawn. The parade assembles at Queen’s Avenue and Sixth Street at 10:15 am, followed by the outdoor service at the Cenotaph from 10:25 am to 12:30 pm.

Guests can attend in person or watch the City’s YouTube livestream, which starts at 10:25 am. A sign language interpreter joins the service to assist attendees. The Q to Q Ferry also begins early, operating from 9:00 am to help attendees reach City Hall by water.

City of New Westminster Ceremonies

In past years, Remembrance Day in New Westminster included an indoor service at the Royal Westminster Regiment Armouries, followed by the civic ceremony at City Hall. In some years, the Armouries service has been private or closed to the public. As of late October 2025, no public indoor service at the Armouries is happening. The confirmed public event is the outdoor ceremony at the City Hall Cenotaph. The Mayor and other dignitaries speak, lay wreaths, and a two-minute silence takes place at 11:00 am.

What To Expect

New Westminster’s ceremony follows a similar format to other Remembrance Day events. A parade assembles near the Royal Westminster Regiment Armouries and marches to City Hall.

Music, uniformed honour guards, prayers, and short speeches from dignitaries all feature in the Cenotaph service. At 11:00 am, everyone observes a two-minute silence, followed by the laying of wreaths.
