Vancouver Rise Women's Soccer Team

One of the newest Vancouver Professional Sports Teams is Vancouver Rise FC, a women’s soccer team that plays in the Northern Super League (NSL).

The NSL played its first season in 2025 with Vancouver Rise FC being one of the six founding teams in the league. The Rise won the league championship in the inaugural season!

Vancouver Rise FC

Originally founded in 2022, but kicking off its first season in 2025, the Vancouver Rise is a new women’s soccer team that plays its home games primarily at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.

The majority of the club is owned by Greg Kerfoot, co-owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps, meaning the Rise are tied closely to the Whitecaps. Canadian soccer legend Christine Sinclair is also a minority owner of the club.

The Rise play in the NSL which is a six-team Canadian women’s soccer league that began play in 2025. In fact, the Vancouver Rise hosted the first match in NSL history, a 1-0 win over the Calgary Wild. Seven months later they beat AFC Toronto 2-1 in the championship final to become the first team to ever lift the Diana B. Matheson Cup.

Each team is only allowed to have up to eight non-Canadian players. That means that the majority of players in the league are Canadian! The NSL is the top level of women’s soccer in the country.

Vancouver Rise Tickets

Those who want to attend Vancouver Rise games can purchase either single-game tickets, flex packs or season tickets.

Single-game tickets start at about $25 for the general admission bleachers on the east side of the stadium. The bleachers have no assigned seating (and no cover if it rains). Tickets in the covered stands on the west side of the stadium range from about $35 to $65.

One way to save some money on tickets is to buy a flex plan. By doing so, you can pick three or more games to get tickets for, and save up to 20% compared to buying tickets to each of the games individually.

Season tickets for the 2026 season range from $260 in general admission (which works out to about $20 per game) up to $550 for the best seats in the main stands (or about $42 per game).

For more details and to buy tickets go to the Vancouver Rise website.

Women’s Soccer in Vancouver

The Vancouver Rise are not the first professional women’s soccer team in the city this century. Back in 2000, the Vancouver Angels formed and played in the then-nascent Women’s Premier Soccer League as the first Canadian team in the American-dominated league.

After their first season, the Angels merged with the Vancouver Lady 86ers (the women’s team in the Vancouver 86ers organization) and moved to the USL W-League under the name Vancouver Breakers. Renamed the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2003, the team played in the USL W-League for over a decade before the Whitecaps organization announced the closure of their women’s adult team.

The Whitecaps continued to field a U-18 girls team and run the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy. The Whitecaps FC Academy team began to compete in League1 British Columbia in 2022, as part of the new semi-professional league.

2022 is also when the Vancouver Rise were officially founded. While they don’t share the same name, the team is a spiritual successor to the Vancouver Whitecaps of the 2000s and early 2010s.
