Professional Sports Teams in Vancouver

Rogers Arena

Popular sports teams in Vancouver are the Canucks and Giants in hockey, Whitecaps in soccer, BC Lions in football and Vancouver Canadians in baseball.

Vancouver is a great place to play sports, but also to watch them.

Vancouver’s Professional Sports

Vancouver is fortunate to have a number of professional sports teams including the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Giants, Vancouver Whitecaps, BC Lions and Vancouver Canadians, among other teams in lower divisions.

See below for details about each.

Vancouver Canadians

Baseball in Vancouver

The Vancouver Canadians are in the Northwest League and play at Nat Bailey Stadium. Their regular season runs from June until September. Tickets start at about $20 each. Some home games include fireworks, which makes those evenings extra entertaining.

Ice Hockey in Vancouver

The Lower Mainland has three hockey teams to choose from. If you can afford it, then check out a Vancouver Canucks game at Rogers Arena in downtown. Single game tickets range from about $55 (if you’re lucky) to $250 or more.

If on a budget, then see the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre. Giants’ tickets range from about $20 to $45, and the games are quite good. There is now also the Abbotsford Canucks, a new team as of 2021/22 who play at the Abbotsford Centre and are the AHL-affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks. The Abbotsford games are only slightly more expensive than the Giants.

You can’t get much more Canadian than hockey, and Vancouver’s teams are no exception.

Soccer in Vancouver

The Vancouver Whitecaps are a good Major League Soccer team. They can be seen playing home games at BC Place Stadium from about March until October each year. Tickets start at around $20 and go up from there, but you need to book well in advance to get cheap ones as they can go fast.

In addition to games with the Whitecaps, in 2026 Vancouver will be one of a number of North American host cities for the FIFA World Cup.

Canadian Football in Vancouver

Vancouver’s team in the Canadian Football League (which is similar to American Football, but with slightly different rules and only 9 teams) is the BC Lions. The team’s home stadium is BC Place. Most years they are a pretty good team. Tickets start at about $35.

Rugby in Vancouver

Vancouver doesn’t have any professional rugby teams. The city is, however, one of several international hosts of the Rugby Sevens tournament each year. Dozens of nations compete for the cup by playing short games with 7-minute halves. It’s a fast-paced and entertaining tournament.
