Vancouver’s Go by Bike Week

Go by Bike Week takes place in Vancouver twice a year. The event used to be called Bike to Work Week.

During this event, people are encouraged to ride their bikes instead of driving, and to log their rides online. HUB Cycling hosts Go by Bike Week in Vancouver.

People can register for Go by Bike Week as individuals or as a team. Past registrants, however, don’t need to re-register every time. They can just log in to their previous account and record a new trip.

Whether you register as an individual or as part of a team, you’ll be eligible for prizes. In the fall of 2025, the top prize was an e-bike from Pedego. There are also other gifts people can win. All bike trips count – commutes, errands, school runs or rides just for fun – and the more trips you log, the more prize draws you’ll qualify for. Prizes for the 2026 edition are likely to be as good.

Participants can access “Celebration Stations” set up across Metro Vancouver. There are typically about 24 stations offering bike maintenance, snacks, and giveaways.

When is Go by Bike Week?

Go by Bike Week happens twice a year, in the spring and fall. In 2026, the late spring event takes place from May 30th to June 5th. The dates for the fall Go by Bike Week for 2026 has yet to be confirmed.

History

The first Bike to Work Week was in 1995, in Victoria, organized by a group of cyclists. Their goal was to raise awareness and increase the rate of commuter cycling. The first event attracted around 500 participants. The scale of the event has grown significantly since then. Today over 50,000 people participate.

The event is now also known as Go by Bike Week. Many communities across BC organize Go by Bike Week events, and some also host Bike to School events.

HUB Cycling hosts the Vancouver Go by Bike Week event. Founded in 1988, the organization’s mandate is to improve biking conditions in Vancouver, and it now has almost 3,000 members. HUB Cycling also organizes the Bike the Night event, usually held in Vancouver in September. The date for 2026 is yet to be confirmed.
