There are Car Free Day Events in Vancouver, Port Coquitlam and other communities. New for 2025, there is also Burnaby Car Free Day.
This year Car Free Day took place in Burnaby on Sunday, August 31st (which was the Sunday of the Labour Day long weekend). Other events that happen around this time of year are the PNE Fair, TAIWANfest, Nikkei Matsuri and a nightclub-style cruise with Vancouver Boat Parties. There are also special events at Greendale Acres in Chilliwack and Taves Family Farms in Abbotsford, not to mention the Brentwood Artisan Farmers Market (which also happens in Burnaby).
Other upcoming Car Free Day events that take place the following month include Port Coquitlam Car Free Day, Commercial Drive Car Free Day and Main Street Car Free Day. Of these other events, the first two took place on September 6th in 2025 and the second two are sponsored by the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival. There is also a Car Free Day event in Maple Ridge which is part of that city’s Our Neck of the Woods festival.
Car Free Day in Burnaby
Car Free Day in Burnaby debuted in 2025 on Sunday, August 31st. The event ran from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm. It happened on Edmonds Street along the four or so blocks between Mary Avenue and Kingsway. The location is by Edmonds Park and the Edmonds Community Centre (which is at 7433 Edmonds Street). It’s also just 1.5 kms east of the Nikkei Museum & Cultural Centre (where the Nikkei Matsuri Japanese festival took place on the same day in 2025).
The same as with other Car Free Day events in the Lower Mainland, the street festival in Burnaby features live entertainment, family-friendly activities, food trucks, community booths and artisan vendors. Admission is free.
What to Expect at Burnaby Car Free Day
Compared to other Car Free Day events, the Burnaby one is fairly small. It’s like a tiny version of the ones that happen on Commercial Drive and Main Street in Vancouver.
Food vendors in 2025 included Cravings Kettle Corn, Crema Ice Cream, Croffle, Lemon Heaven, Peace Sweetz, Reel Mac & Cheese, and Tacosaurus.
At the event there is a Community Stage, Family Stage and Main Stage. Various acts perform on the different stages throughout the afternoon. This year, Latin American musician Frankie Hidalgo also played on the street near Fulton Avenue a few times.
