Steveston Village celebrates the start of the holiday season in December with Christmas tree decorations at the Cannery, classic cars and Santa Claus.
Santa arrives by boat and there is a car show at the beginning of the Christmas season. This event took place on December 1st in 2024.
Christmas in Steveston Village
On the afternoon of the first Sunday in December each year a lot of fun and Christmas cheer happen in Steveston Village.
On that day a car rally is in town and Santa Claus arrives by boat at the wharf.
Christmas Classic Car Cruise
The Christmas Classic Car Cruise also takes place in Steveston Village on the Sunday.
After the procession of cars makes it way through town they usually remain on display for a while in the parking lot of the Steveston Hotel at 12111 Third Avenue (so right by the Cannery).
The event is a fundraiser for the Richmond Christmas Fund. It’s free for the public and donations of both money and toys are greatly appreciated. In all there are usually up to around 36 cars ranging from convertible MGs to vintage trucks.
Arrival of Santa Claus
One of the highlights of the day is when Santa arrives on a whale-watching boat at the wharf in Steveston Village. He then walks (with police escort most years) along the waterfront to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery where he hangs out for a couple of hours for photos with children.
Santa’s arrival time at the wharf is around 1:00 pm and he’s usually greeted by a small crowd. It’s not a big event, but it’s fun to watch for those who attend.
Festival of Trees
The Christmas at the Cannery “Festival of Trees” is a display of Christmas trees at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery during the month of December. Local merchants and community organizations each adopt and decorate a tree.
The Festival of Trees ran every day between December 1st and January 7th during last year’s holiday season. The decorated trees are pretty and make the Gulf of Georgia Cannery look nice and festive.
