CircusWest Performing Arts Society in Vancouver
CircusWest is an educational centre for the circus arts. It’s where people of all ages can learn from professionals in the industry. If you’ve ever wanted to try acrobatics, juggling, aerial acts, or other cool things you’ve seen in circus performances, there’s probably a lesson or program for you!
Founded in 1984 as the Vancouver Children’s Circus Society, the company began as a non-profit circus school. It eventually grew into a larger operation and is now called the CircusWest Performing Arts Society.
Programs and Camps
CirKids is CircusWest’s main program for youth. It runs from September to June each year. Age groups range from 3 to 4 years old all the way up to between 13 and 19 years of age. Younger children typically learn the basics in fun environments, whereas older kids refine their skills and potentially even pursue careers in the circus arts.
For people who don’t want to commit to 10-month programs, there are also sessional classes that run weekly for about a month. These are perfect for beginners who just want to learn the fundamentals of specific acts.
The centre hosts multi-day camps for kids over Spring Break and summer vacation as well. There are also single-day camps available on select Pro-D Days. Workshops are available for adults throughout the year too.
