Vancouver Canucks Hockey in 2022

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks are the professional NHL ice hockey team that plays home games at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. Below is their 2022 spring schedule.

Because of delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the 2019-2020 NHL season ended in late September, which was about three months later than usual. The 2020-21 season was a shortened one that ended in July.

The 2021-22 season is a return to the regular 82-game schedule. It began in October. After over a year and a half since fans were last in attendance for a Canucks game, they are now back in the stands once again.

Part of the Western Conference of the NHL, the Canucks play ice hockey at Rogers Arena. Tickets range from about $55 up to hundreds of dollars. If you want to see great ice hockey, then Rogers Arena during a Canucks game is the place to be.

With people being allowed back in the stands this season, it’s an exciting time to be a fan! We attended the home opener on October 26th, 2021. The game was scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm that day, and we arrived at 6:30 pm.

Although the lineups outside the arena looked very long, they moved surprisingly fast. Rogers Arena employees reminded everyone to get their COVID-19 vaccine passports and pieces of photo identification ready while in line. At the first gate, workers verified each person’s vaccine passport and identity.

After that, all that was left to do before entering the building was the usual ticket scan and security check, which were both quick processes as well. In total, we only waited in line outside for about 5 minutes from the time we arrived!

As expected, all fans were asked to wear face masks inside the arena, except for while eating or drinking at their seats. Although things aren’t completely back to normal just yet, it still felt good to be back in Rogers Arena to cheer on the Vancouver Canucks!

Vancouver Canucks 2022 Schedule

After a year where they only played the other Canadian teams, the Canucks are set to return to a normal schedule this coming season. Home games are to be played in Rogers Arena, and fans will hopefully be able to attend. Local sports bars and restaurants will no doubt be showing the majority of games as usual.

Below are all the home games the Canucks are slated to play in 2022. The team is set to play 41 games at home and 41 on the road for the 2021/22 season. You can catch all the road games on TV channels such as Sportsnet.

Canucks 2020-21 Season Summary

The 2020-21 season has been miserable for both the Canucks and their fans. Coming off a surprising playoff run last year, many expected the team to take another step. Those plans were unfortunately derailed by a slew of internal challenges and the COVID outbreak.

The Canucks had many vital players become unrestricted free agents before the start of the 2020/21 season. That included goalie Jacob Markstrom (2020’s team MVP) and Tyler Toffoli. Although the team wanted to keep both players, they decided to sign with other Canadian clubs instead.

Thatcher Demko has thankfully been a revelation in 2021 to replace Markstrom in net, but Toffoli’s absence has been greatly felt. The Canucks decided to overpay Jake Virtanen and Tanner Pearson to try and replace Toffoli and neither has come close to doing so.

The controversy surrounding the Canucks led to them underperforming on the ice. And just when they were starting to turn things around, a COVID outbreak happened. Almost the entire team contracted the virus and many players passed it on to their families too. It was the most serious COVID outbreak that any North American sports team has had to deal with since the start of the pandemic.

To make things worse, the NHL decided that the Canucks needed to play all their remaining games for revenue purposes even after many of their matches were cancelled due to COVID. This meant that the team has had a compressed schedule in an already shortened season.

The Canucks have unsurprisingly experienced an uptick in injuries and struggled after returning to the ice since many players are still feeling the effects of the virus.

It’s safe to say that this has been a lost season for the Canucks, and we can only hope for a bounce back next year.

Canucks 2021-22 Season Update

After a disappointing 2020-21 season, the Canucks made a number of bold offseason moves. On paper, the team looked much improved and many fans expected them to return to the playoffs.

Unfortunately, the on-ice product told a different story. Less than a third of the way into the season, the Canucks only had 8 wins in 25 games and sat at the bottom of the Pacific Division standings. As a result, former head coach Travis Green was replaced by Bruce Boudreau and General Manager Jim Benning was replaced by Jim Rutherford too.

The upheaval to the team’s coaching staff and management group revitalized the players, as the Canucks then went on their longest winning streak of the season. However, their poor start means that making the playoffs is still going to prove to be a massive challenge, but there’s no denying that the team is heading in a new and exciting direction.

Other Information

Vancouver’s other main hockey team is the Vancouver Giants, who are in a lower league than the Canucks. They play at the Langley Events Centre and their games are also exciting to watch, and cheaper.
