Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Nights of Light

Night Blossoms by Bloedel Conservatory

The Nights of Light was going to be a new Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival event featuring music and light displays at Queen Elizabeth Park in April.

Nights of Light at Queen Elizabeth Park

In 2019 the Nights of Light event was going to make its debut on Friday, April 12th, at Queen Elizabeth Park. However, the event was cancelled, and it didn’t happen in 2020 either. The entrance to the venue was going to be at Cambie Street and 33rd Avenue. It was set to be a free event and run from dusk until 10:00 pm weather permitting.

Nights of Light was going to be a new event for the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, although there were similarities between it and the Spring Lights Illumination Night which had taken place at the same venue over the previous number of years. Both events were to be free and feature live music, cherry blossoms and cool light illuminations.

Neither Nights of Light nor Spring Lights Illumination Night is happening in 2022. Hopefully one or the other can happen again in a future year.

Free Events in April

Background to the Event

Every year the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (VCBF) hosts a number of events including a free one at Queen Elizabeth Park. There used to be the Sakura Illuminations Night, which was later renamed Spring Lights Illumination Night. Both took place at the park in mid-April.

In 2019 the plan was to move the Spring Lights Illumination Night event to Stanley Park. For various reasons, however, that turned out not to be possible. VCBF hoped to hold the event once again in 2020, at its new venue, but, for 2019, the Spring Lights Illumination Night was cancelled and it doesn’t appear to have been scheduled for 2020 either. In its place was going to be the new Nights of Light event, but now that too was cancelled.

Because of COVID-19 there likely won’t be any large in-person events in April this year. Maybe 2023 will be the event’s inaugural year. Only time will tell.
