Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival

One of North America’s premier winter sports events, the Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival offers a week of concerts, snow sport competitions and more.

In 2018 the event runs from Tuesday April 10th to Sunday April 15th.

Whistler’s Spring Ski Festival

The Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival takes places in April each year.

In the village there are free outdoor concerts, on the mountain there are ski and snowboard demonstrations and competitions during the day, and at night there is live music and parties in the village’s bars and clubs.

Feature events typically include photographer and filmmaker showdowns and multiple music performances.

Concerts during the 10-day festival in 2017 includeVirginia to Vegas as well as Willa, both from Toronto. In 2018, headliner performers at the 6-day festival are the band A Tribe Called Red and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

  • Multiplicity – a TED Talk-style event where the speakers are explorers, world athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. It takes place at the Whistler Conference Centre starting at 8 pm. Tickets cost $30.
  • Kokanee Freeride Club Series – the 6-person alternative rock band Electric 6 performs at the Garibaldi Lift Company.

Wednesday, April 11th, 2018

  • SWATCH ART + Soul – a free multi-medium art exhibition at the Whistler Conference Centre. Open from noon until 6 pm.
  • Olympus 72hr Filmmaker Showdown – the showcasing of mini (3 to 5 min) films at the Whistler Conference Centre where participating filmmakers had to both shoot and edit their works within 100 km of Whistler within a 3-day period. The event starts at 9 pm and costs $30.

Thursday, April 12th, 2018

  • SWATCH ART + Soul – a free multi-medium art exhibition at the Whistler Conference Centre. Open from noon until 6 pm.
  • Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown – a photo competition between 6 competitors at the Whistler Conference Centre. The show starts at 9 pm and costs $30.
  • Kokanee Freeride Club SeriesStacey Mullen performs his Detroit Techno tunes at Moe Joe’s.

Friday, April 13th, 2018

  • Saudan Couloir Ski Race Extreme – the steepest downhill ski race on the planet is scheduled to take place TOMORROW between the top of Blackcomb’s Saudan Couloir and Glacier Creek Lodge. If Saturday’s forecast doesn’t look good, however, the event might instead take place today.
  • Boarderstyle World Championships – takes place today and tomorrow on Blackcomb Mountain. Training runs from 10:15 until 11:40 am and timed runs go from around noon until 1:30 pm.
  • Big Air: Ski – ski jumping and live music at the base of Whistler Mountain and viewable from the plaza. Tentatively scheduled to start at 7 pm.
  • SWATCH ART + Soul – a free multi-medium art exhibition at the Whistler Conference Centre. Open from noon until 6 pm.
  • Kokanee Freeride Club Series – the 8-person band Five Alarm Funk performs a mix of Gypsy, Afro, Latin, Ska and Punk at the Garibaldi Lift Company.
  • A Tribe Called Red – the Canadian band performs in the Skiers Plaza starting at 9 pm.

Saturday, April 14th, 2018

  • Saudan Couloir Ski Race Extreme – the steepest downhill ski race on the planet takes place between the top of Blackcomb’s Saudan Couloir and Glacier Creek Lodge. It’s a weather-dependent event that’s scheduled to start today at 11 am (although Friday is an alternative back-up day).
  • Big Air: Snowboard – snowboard jumping and live music at the base of Whistler Mountain and viewable from the plaza. Tentatively scheduled to start at 7 pm.
  • Boarderstyle World Championships – takes place for the second of two days on Blackcomb Mountain. Training runs from noon until 1 pm and the finals start at 1:30 pm.
  • Jazzy Jeff – the popular DJ entertains in the Skiers Plaza starting at 9 pm.

Sunday, April 15th, 2018

  • Twisted Tea Slush Cup – sliding down the slope and across an icy-cold pool of water at the Tube Park from noon until 3 pm.
