Surrey’s Dreadworks Haunted Halloween Attraction
Dreadworks isn’t your typical haunted house. Its creators describe it as “immersive live theatre” with a decidedly spooky flavour. The experience takes place in a mythical realm called Somnara where participants join Lucas on a desperate quest to rescue his sister, Abby, from Erebane, a monster of chaos set on dismantling the Dreadworks and overthrowing the corrupted Dream Lord, X’aroketh.

What to Expect at Dreadworks Haunted House
Dreadworks is more than just a haunted house – it’s an all-encompassing, 4D horror experience that transports guests into a world of nightmares. Imagine stepping into a live-action horror film where you’re not just watching the terror unfold, but you’re right in the middle of it. Designed by experts from the theatre and film industries, this attraction is full of immersive theatrical elements that heighten the fear factor.
Expect cutting-edge visual effects, dynamic lighting, and an eerie soundscape that keeps you on edge. This is a fully multi-sensory experience, with carefully crafted scents adding to the atmosphere.
Dreadworks spans multiple intricately designed indoor sets, ensuring that once inside, you’re ghoulishly protected from the elements. While the midway, food trucks and stage show are outdoors, the haunted house itself offers complete shelter from the weather. However, we still recommend dressing appropriately for the season as you navigate the outdoor areas before entering the heart of the horror.
To ensure the experience caters to all levels of fear tolerance, Dreadworks Haunted House offers a unique wristband system.
- Green Wristbands: For those who dare to experience it all, this level includes physical interaction, such as being grabbed by actors or separated from your group.
- Yellow Wristbands: No touching, but brace yourself for all the psychological and visual scares.
- Red Wristbands: A more controlled experience with no physical contact which makes it perfect for those who prefer their horror a bit more at arm’s length. (Note: If one person in a group wears red, the whole group will share the toned-down experience.)

Dreadworks Video
For a good idea of what to expect, check out the video below. It shows scenes of Dreadworks Haunted House from both inside and outside the attraction. The first scenes are of what we saw mostly outdoors when we went. There was a lot to see, including roaming scary characters. Indoors the place was full of even more freaky monsters which you’ll see in the second half of the video.
What you won’t see in the video is the pre-show performance which takes place on select nights on a stage at Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre (where Dreadworks takes place). You also won’t see so many of the interior sets, which were amazing, but also very dark and so not so easy for us to film without special lighting.
As you’ll see from this video, the costumes, makeup, sets and acting at Dreadworks Haunted House are impressive!
Tips & Advice
Before you plunge into the nightmare that is Dreadworks, below are some key things to keep in mind.
TIP #1: If you crave intense, spine-chilling scares, Dreadworks Haunted House is your go-to destination. Designed to deliver an intense and exhilarating experience, the attraction will definitely satisfy those who enjoy a good scare.
TIP #2: Dreadworks delivers an immersive horror experience. Guests under 18 must have a guardian sign a waiver. Enter at your own fear (and don’t say you weren’t warned)!
TIP #3: If you’re unsure about your ability to handle the full intensity, opt for the red wristband. If you thrive on fear, however, make sure you go with friends who are equally bold, or split into smaller groups to match your desired level of terror. Keep in mind that if one person in your group wears a red wristband, the entire group cannot opt for green. This ensures that no one is overly freaked out and that everyone enjoys the experience at a comfortable level.
TIP #4: Be aware that there are strobe lights throughout the attraction, which might not be suitable for those with epilepsy or light sensitivities.
TIP #5: Guests can only wear costumes on special designated costume nights. Check the schedule for these events to add an extra layer of fun to your experience. Please note though that Halloween masks are never permitted. Nor is gore-focused makeup or SFX makeup that drastically alters your facial appearance. This ensures a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.
TIP #6: For a calmer experience before or after your visit to Dreadworks, consider stopping by the Museum of Surrey. Located nearby in Cloverdale, it’s a great spot for a family-friendly outing.
