Lunarfest Vancouver Lunar New Year Celebrations

Lunarfest Crafts and Lanterns

LunarFest Vancouver is an annual festival that takes place around Lunar New Year. It includes family-friendly activities, art displays and entertainment.

The festival is an inclusive event that celebrates Chinese New Year, Korean New Year, Vietnamese New Year and the Lunar New Year for other cultures too. It’s hosted by the same organization that runs TaiwanFest in September.

In 2026 Lunar New Year is on February 17th. LunarFest runs from February 14th to 28th at various locations in Vancouver.

LunarFest Vancouver in 2026

LunarFest consists of a number of events, displays and activities outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, at Granville Island, at the Bentall Centre and at the Pendulum Gallery. The festival is related to The Lantern City which features art displays at the same locations as LunarFest.

In 2026 LunarFest starts on Saturday, February 14th, which is three days before the beginning of the Year of the Horse. The festival’s theme this year is “Brave the Wind” and it runs until Saturday, February 28th. In addition to LunarFest, there are The Lantern City art exhibits during that same period and a little longer past it.

The date of the LunarFest Concert is to be confirmed as of the end of December. Last year it took place from 7:00 to 9:30 pm on January 27th at the Orpheum Theatre. The event featured performances by the Suona Gang, Harmonia String Ensemble, West Vancouver Youth Band and more. Tickets were pay-what-you-can with options ranging from $8 to $18 per person.

The main LunarFest celebrations take place over three weekends at Granville Island, beginning on February 14th and ending on the 28th. Typical activities include Suona and craft workshops, artist markets and more. The schedule for 2026 is TBC as of December.
