Lynn Valley Days in North Vancouver

For over 100 years North Vancouver has celebrated Lynn Valley Days. The Gala is a formal affair with food and dancing in a giant tent at Lynn Valley Park. (To see what the Gala looks like, continue reading or click Gala Video.) The next day, the parade features decorated vehicles, marching bands and entries by local businesses. Also on the second day, the festival is like a carnival with face painting, dance performances, community organization information booths and various family-friendly activities.

In 2024 Lynn Valley Days runs on the Friday and Saturday of June 21st and 22nd. The Lynn Valley Gala takes place on the Friday (which is also National Indigenous People’s Day) and the Fair and Parade happens on the Saturday.

Lynn Valley Days is hosted by the Lynn Valley Lions Club which is an awesome service organization that does lots to support the local community.

Lynn Valley Gala

The Gala takes place in a giant tent at Lynn Valley Park at 3590 Mountain Highway in North Vancouver. At the event there are appetizers, desserts, a bar and dancing. It’s an adults-only event. Tickets in 2023 cost about $113 per person including online fees. You could also reserve a table for 10 people for around $1,120.

The Gala is a lot of fun. The venue, food and live music are all excellent too. Everything is under a giant canopy, so it’s sort of outdoors, but also nice and dry if it rains. In 2022 the band was Side One, which was really good. The same group was back again in 2023.

The Gala runs from 5:30 pm until midnight. It’s a great event and highly recommended!

TIP: Try to find nine other people to go with you so that you can all sit at the same table.

For an idea of what the Gala looks like, check out the following video. It shows scenes of the event from 2022. As you’ll see, the evening involves live music, dancing, food, drinking, a silent auction and other activities. It’s a lot of fun!

The band playing in this video is Side One which is a local, Metro Vancouver-based group.

Lynn Valley Days Parade

The parade starts at around 9:15 am at the corner of Lynn Valley Road and Mollie Nye Way near the Karen Magnussen Recreation Centre. It goes along Lynn Valley Road and then turns up Mountain Highway, finishing at Lynn Valley Park by Frederick Road.

The Lynn Valley Days parade isn’t the Lower Mainland’s largest parade, and far from the longest, but it is a good one for locals. Like other community parades throughout the region, it’s popular with young families and children. Folks from the neighbourhood get to see people they know riding bikes and marching along.

In the parade there are typically decorated vehicles from local businesses, community groups and youth organizations, and lots of people walking along. From start to finish it’s less than 30 minutes long. As soon as the parade finishes the festival activities begin in the park.

Lynn Valley Days Fair

After the parade, Lynn Valley Days activities continue with small-town, carnival-like activities until about 4:00 pm most years. Throughout the day there is a variety of entertainment including, in past years, dance performances, magician shows, jugglers, puppet shows and choir performances. Every year the entertainment lineup is slightly different.

At Lynn Valley Days there is also face painting and craft activities for children, plus games, bouncy castles and inflatable slides. Dozens of community organizations also have display booths with information about their services.

In 2022 Lynn Valley Days had one of the largest collections of bouncy castles we’ve ever seen! You had to buy tickets for them and each structure cost between about three and five tickets. This will likely be the case again in 2024.

If you plan to visit the North Shore in mid-July, and you have young children, then definitely check out the Lynn Valley Days activities. And while you’re in the area, consider visiting some of North Vancouver’s top attractions, including Lynn Canyon Park with its free suspension bridge right close by.

Lynn Valley Days Parade Video

To give you a good idea of what the parade looks like, check out the video below. It shows scenes of the parade from 2022.

As you’ll see in the video, the parade includes a small number of floats and entries from local community groups. There are also fire trucks, including antique ones. A couple of smaller marching bands also participate. Young families and other locals line the sidewalks to watch. What you’ll see in the video is about 20% of the entries (plus or minus) from the event in 2022.
