The Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival is a family-friendly event featuring market vendors, live entertainment, fireworks and more in New Westminster.
The fireworks festival takes place on August 26th in 2023. That’s the same weekend as a number of other great events including the Shipyards Night Market on the North Shore and the PNE Fair in Vancouver.
Summer Fireworks in New Westminster
Most years there are fireworks in New Westminster on Canada Day. In 2022 the city had Canada Day celebrations, but, for various reasons, without the usual fireworks. Instead, the organizers of the annual July 1st fireworks show postponed their pyrotechnic festivities until the end of the summer.
Because of the above cancellation in July, the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival is a new event in New Westminster. It’s an afternoon and evening of family-friendly activities towards the end of summer.
At the end-of-August event there’s a market with local vendors, a beverage garden, a stage with live music and entertainment, plus a spectacular fireworks display to close the night. Best of all, the festival is completely free to attend!
When and Where
The Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival runs from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm on Saturday, August 26th in 2023.
All festivities happen outdoors at New Westminster Quay along Quayside Drive. The venue is close to the Fraser River Discovery Centre, which is an especially fun place for children that’s worth a visit.
2023 Schedule of Activities
The 2023 Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival kicks off with a market that runs from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. There are over 30 vendors scheduled to attend. At the event you’ll find a wide range of products on sale including everything from candles and crafts to baked goods and chocolates.
The live entertainment portion of the event runs from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the outdoor stage. There are multiple singers and musicians performing during this time. The full entertainment schedule for 2023 is listed below.

The Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival concludes with a fireworks display just after 9:00 pm. The fireworks run for about 10 to 15 minutes and the entire festival wraps up at 9:30 pm.
