Nowruz Persian New Year Celebrations at Capilano Mall in 2025
The Capilano Mall hosts events from time to time. In 2025, for example, on March 22nd, there was a free event celebrating Nowruz (i.e., the Persian New Year). The mall also has special seasonal events and activities, like at Christmas and Easter.
The Persian New Year is called Nowruz and it’s an important holiday in Iran, and for members of Persian communities around the world, including in North Vancouver. Vancouver’s North Shore, actually, has quite a large Persian population. For that reason, in 2025, Capilano Mall celebrated the occasion with a special event on March 22nd.
The Persian New Year event at the mall included dancing and drumming performances as well as cultural displays. Dance performances were with the Academy of Middle Eastern Dance (AMED). They showcased traditional dances and their vibrant costumes.
North Shore Bike Park
The North Shore Bike Park was the largest indoor bike park in British Columbia (until it closed in the spring of 2025). The attraction opened inside Capilano Mall in 2023. It took over the old Sears department store, at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Marine Drive.
The bike park covered more than 60,000 square feet. It was a fun place. Bicycles and scooters were available to rent, as were helmets, which were mandatory. You could also rent knee and elbow pads.
The North Shore Bike Park offered many different tracks. The easiest ones were marked green, with light blue being a little more challenging. Darker blue tracks were difficult and black ones were for the best, most advanced riders. There was something for all ages and skill levels to enjoy.

Capilano Mall Foodie Fest
Capilano Foodie Fest is an annual affair at Capilano Mall in North Vancouver. As the name of the festival suggests, the event is a weekend full of tasty food. The fourth edition of Capilano Foodie Fest was on the Saturday and Sunday of the Father’s Day Weekend in 2024.
The family-friendly event takes place outdoors in the mall’s parking lot (by the Kin’s Farm Market entrance on the west side of the mall). The event is free to attend. You just have to pay for whatever food you want to try. Children can enjoy complimentary face painting, balloon twisting and crafts. There is also a bean bag throwing game.
At the event there is a Good Eats Market with local artisanal food vendors. Last year they had a new line-up of food trucks offering savoury snacks and sweet treats. The event’s PB & Jam zone featured live music throughout the weekend.
(Note: Capilano Foodie Fest might not run in 2025. If it doesn’t, then a different event will likely happen in its place, and probably inside the mall instead of outside.)
