Reckless Shipyards e-Bikes and Bike Services
Reckless Shipyards prides itself on its selection of high-end electric bikes, or e-bikes. E-bikes feature a small electric motor that helps you while you’re pedaling. They are becoming very popular. You see them everywhere nowadays!
With e-bikes, the motor doesn’t usually eliminate the need for pedaling. Rather, it makes it easier to handle going up hills and traveling longer distances. Electric bikes are more expensive than regular ones, but they provide an easier ride for folks who enjoy cycling but aren’t athletes. They certainly make cycling up and down North Vancouver’s steep streets pleasant and easy. We got an e-bike from Reckless Shipyards and love it!
Reckless Shipyards is part of the family of Reckless Bike Stores in Metro Vancouver. The company was founded in 1986 with its first location near Granville Island. It has since expanded with stores now on the North Shore as well as in Yaletown.
On top of carrying a selection of e-bikes from more than six different manufacturers, Reckless Shipyards provides service appointments for whatever issue your bike might have. The store also offers rentals for not just bikes, but also sometimes for ski and snowboard equipment in the winter too.
We recommend Reckless Shipyards for a number of reasons. Location is one of them. The store’s products are also competitively priced. As of the last time we checked, you can rent an e-bike for just $38 for two hours. That’s a really good deal! More than anything, though, we recommend this bike shop for its service. We have been so impressed with their customer service, knowledgeable staff and attention to detail!
CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD
Reckless Shipyards won first place in the area of Service Excellence as part of the 2023 North Vancouver Business Excellence Awards through the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. That doesn’t surprise us at all! We’ve been extremely impressed by the store’s level of customer service!)

Bike Services and Repairs
All bikes require repairs at different stages of their life. Reckless Shipyards offers one year of free tune-ups after you make a purchase from its store, and past that period of time it offers a comprehensive range of servicing options.
As of the last time we looked, a standard safety check at the store cost around $60 and included making sure the tire pressure, chain, brakes and other essentials are in good working order. There are five different levels of tune-ups available with the highest-quality being around the $300 “overhaul” package. This includes completely disassembling multiple parts of the bike, cleaning them and repackaging them together almost as if it were a new bike.
