National Indigenous Peoples Day in Surrey
Communities across Canada celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st each year. Surrey has the largest urban First Nations population in the province. The city’s National Indigenous Peoples Day event is correspondingly big.
A number of years ago Surrey held its National Indigenous People’s Day event at Holland Park which is across the street from the Central City Shopping Centre. However, in 2026, the event takes place at Semiahmoo Park at 15782 Marine Drive.
The event runs from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
What to Expect
Past year’s events featured a barbeque and closing ceremonies at the end of the evening. There were also live performances by artists like XiQuelem, Jade Turner, Wild River Singers, and many more. The 2026 event will likely be similar.
The 2026 event is hosted by the Semiahmoo First Nations in partnership with the Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association (FRAFCCA).
At the annual event there are usually representatives from various Indigenous nations, dignitaries from all levels of government, and thousands of people. There’s entertainment showcasing First Nation culture as well as the cultures of other communities.
There are also usually numerous community organizations with information booths, craft activities for kids and other family-friendly things to see and do.
Surrey is a great place to be on National Indigenous Peoples Day if you want to celebrate First Nations culture, learn about the culture and experience a fun and entertaining event.
