Toastmasters’ WOW

Toastmasters is a collection of social clubs that promote public speaking and leadership training. For more information on this great organization, click Toastmasters in the Lower Mainland.

In addition to offering weekly meetings, semi-annual conferences and miscellaneous other special events, one of the Lower Mainland’s signature Toastmasters events is the annual WOW Event where a collection of some of the region’s top public speakers entertain for an evening at a local theatre.

The WOW Event usually takes place in the early spring, costs about $10 to attend and is highly recommended.

Vancouver’s Best Places and WOW 2010

The website Vancouver’s Best Places didn’t exist back in 2010, but the website’s founder, Peter Roundhill, was at the time very involved with Toastmasters. In 2009 Peter entered the Toastmasters Humorous Speech Contest and actually won at the provincial level. Peter’s speech title was “The Olimpigs are Coming!” and it was a play on words poking fun at the controversies surrounding the then upcoming 2010 Olympic Games.

In February 2010 Peter was honored to be one of the guest speakers at the Toastmasters WOW Event at the Acts Theatre in Maple Ridge.

Guest speakers at the Toastmasters WOW Event rarely wear costumes, and even more rarely do they put on pig snouts. In 2010, however, Peter Roundhill did!

Below is a video of his talk at the event. Hope you enjoy!

Note: Peter Roundhill never was a “top speaker.” He was just lucky, somehow squeezed his way into the 2010 WOW Event program, managed not to forget any of his speech, and had a lot of fun! He even managed to make a few members of the audience squeal!
