Granville Island’s Carousel Theatre
Granville Island is home to a number of theatre companies. One of them is Carousel Theatre for Young People which specializes in plays geared towards children and their parents.
Carousel Theatre is located at 1411 Cartwright Street in Vancouver. It’s directly across the street from Waterfront Theatre which is part of the Granville Island Theatre District.
Carousel Theatre’s 2024-25 season kicked off in December with a production of The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe. The first show of 2025 is The Screamer (Le Criard). It’s a production by Théâtre du Gros Mecano from Quebec. The show runs from February 17th to 23rd at Carousel Theatre.
The Screamer (Le Criard) 2025 Production
Théâtre du Gros Mecano and Carousel Theatre present The Screamer (Le Criard) for everyone ages 10 and up.
It’s a show about Flo Beaurivage and her need to scream. As she ages, there are less and less places where she can be loud. Flo ends up by the ocean, which may be where she was meant to be all along. The production features live drumming, poetry and two performers.
While there are shows at Carousel Theatre from February 17th to 23rd, nearly all of the weekdays only have matinees for school field trips. There are shows open to the general public on two days. Below are the exact times for each public performance.
- Monday, February 17th, 2025 – 10:00 am and 11:30 am
- Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 – 11:00 am
Tickets cost about $30 for adults, $27 for seniors and students, and $20 for those under the age of 18. The play runs for just 35 minutes, making it a good one for kids who might not want to sit through a multi-hour long production.

About Carousel Theatre
Carousel Theatre began in 1976 with the goal of enriching the lives of children and their families through accessible, engaging theatre. The non-profit company offers a series of shows each year that give the chance for young kids to experience live theatre that’s created with them in mind.
Carousel also offers various workshops and camps for children throughout the year. For the 2024-25 school year the company’s Drama School runs theatre day camps on every Pro-D Day for children ages 7 to 11. There are also Spring Break Camps in March 2025 that provide a longer experience.
