Films at the Orpheum Theatre

Performing arts groups rent the Orpheum Theatre for their productions. Vancouver Civic Theatres also hosts a number of its own events, including films.

Vancouver Civic Theatres sometimes hosts Silent Movie Mondays events where a classic black & white film is shown at the Orpheum. Charlie Chaplin Shorts plays on June 3rd.

Also in the first half of 2024 there are Tours of the Orpheum Theatre on a number of Saturdays. They take place at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on April 27th, May 11th, May 25th and June 8th. Tickets start at around $10.

Another event hosted by Vancouver Civic Theatres this spring is VCT Visual Arts Open House. It takes place on Wednesday, May 1st, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre lobbies feature art exhibitions that are free to check out. There are works by sharai mustatia and Biliana Velkova, along with an artist talk at 6:30 pm and live music by Sara Magal.

Vancouver Civic Theatres and Vancouver Events

Vancouver Civic Theatres is the City of Vancouver organization that manages the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and Orpheum Theatre. The organization also manages the Vancouver Playhouse, the ANNEX and šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn (the last of which is the outdoor plaza in front of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre).

Lots of events and organizations rent the various theatre facilities. Examples include touring Broadway productions as well as events with local groups like the Vancouver Opera and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at different times of the year. Goh Ballet’s Nutcracker also takes place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in December.

In addition to renting space to both local and touring organizations, Vancouver Civic Theatres hosts some of its own events. These include Sunset Cinema and Dance Dance Dance which are free activities in the summer. Vancouver Civic Theatres also sometimes hosts free Tours of the Orpheum Theatre.

Orpheum Events

Silent Movie Mondays take place from time to time. They feature a classic black & white film at the Orpheum.

On June 3rd, 2024, the movie is Charlie Chaplin Shorts. It’s a collection of short films by Charlie Chaplin, accompanied by music played on the Orpheum’s own Wurlitzer organ. Before the show there is live music with the Gatsby Strutters Jazz Band and after the show there is a discussion.
