The Haney Farmers Market is usually open from early May until the end of October. It takes place in Memorial Peace Park which is located at 11925 Haney Place in downtown Maple Ridge.

The 2020 Haney Farmers Market ran from July 18th until October 24th. The market had a delayed start because of COVID-19 restrictions, as the originally scheduled opening date for the 2020 market was May 9th. In 2021 the market ran from May 1st until October 30th. The 2022 market opened on May 7th and ran until the end of October.

The exact dates for the market season in 2023 are to be confirmed.

At the market vendors sell everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to crafty creations.

SUMMER HAPPENINGS IN MAPLE RIDGE

Another great event that takes place at Memorial Peace Park in the summer is Maple Ridge Happenings which usually runs from early July until the beginning of September. It features different activities on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Sometimes there is a concert or dance performance. On other days there are family-friendly games and other activities. Admission is free!

Who’s at the Market

At the Haney Farmers Market vendors offer a wide range of products each week. There are farmers selling local produce, butchers selling meat, and bakers selling bread and other baked goods. Also at the market most days are artisans selling plant arrangements, jewellery, clothing and other handcrafted items.

Local breweries and distilleries are other frequent participants at the market. They sell their alcoholic products (to folk ages 19+), and they also usually have tasters for those wishing to try a sample.

Musicians often perform at the market too. There is also a kids’ corner where children can hang out and be entertained with stories and other activities.

Tips and Advice

Below are some tips and suggestions to help you make the most of your visit to the Haney Farmers Market.

TIP #1: Make sure to take your reusable bags as the vendors at the market strive to make it a sustainable place and reduce the amount of waste created.

TIP #2: There is parking close by that’s free for the first hour and costs about $0.75 for every additional hour. Take public transit or bike to the market if you can though (unless you plan to buy lots and will struggle to get it home).

TIP #3: Combine your trip to the market with a visit to other places of interest in the area. Golden Ears Provincial Park is beautiful and home to picturesque Alouette Lake. Kanaka Creek Regional Park is also a nice place for a stroll. They are about a 22-minute and five-minute drive away respectively.

TIP #4: The market in Maple Ridge is hosted by the Fraser North Farmers Market Society which also runs the Port Coquitlam Farmers Market. This second market usually happens at 2253 Leigh Square Place on Thursdays from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm between May and October.

TIP #5: Shop at farmers markets as often as you can! Doing so supports local farmers and artisans, keeps dollars in the local community and is better for the environment (as the products you’ll buy don’t need to be shipped from across the globe). Shopping at local markets and chatting with the vendors can also be fun!
