Indonesian Festival in Vancouver
The Indonesian Festival in British Columbia is a full day of cultural celebration, Indonesian cuisine and family-friendly entertainment. This vibrant festival showcases the rich traditions of Indonesia. Included most years are traditional performances, arts and crafts, games and foods from across the archipelago. It’s a good way to experience Indonesia’s diverse culture in Vancouver.
Where and When?
In 2025 the festival took place from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 24th. 2026 details are to be confirmed.
The 2025 event was held in the north plaza outside the Vancouver Art Gallery at 750 Hornby Street. Admission was free and everyone was welcome to join the festivities. Attendees were encouraged to arrive early to explore the food, cultural activities and live performances throughout the day.
What to Expect
At the festival visitors can usually taste authentic Indonesian dishes and drinks from a variety of food vendors such as Panasbung, Wat-a-melon, Neng’s Kitchen, Warung Betawi and others. Attendees can expect sizzling satay, aromatic noodles, rich curries, tropical beverages and sweet treats that capture the flavours of Indonesia.
The festival also features official Indonesian product vendors offering handmade, sustainable and halal-certified items such as batik scarves, stylish hijabs, natural cosmetics, artisan foods and eco-friendly gifts.
On stage, people can enjoy a mix of cultural performances most years including traditional dances, pencak silat demonstrations, gamelan music and modern live music. In 2025 attendees were also able to participate in fun games, enjoy arts and crafts, and celebrate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day.
One of the special activities at the event normally include a grand prize giveaway. In 2025 the prize was a round-trip premium economy ticket from Vancouver to Jakarta, courtesy of festival partner EVA Air.
With various things to see, taste and experience, the Indonesian Festival promises an interesting and lively celebration for all ages each year.
