Authentic Indonesian culture comes alive with food, music, performances and prizes at the Indonesian Festival outside the Vancouver Art Gallery in August.
Indonesian Festival in Vancouver
The Indonesian Festival is back in British Columbia for the first time since 2019, offering a full day of cultural celebration, Indonesian cuisine and family-friendly entertainment. This vibrant festival showcases the rich traditions of Indonesia, featuring traditional music, dance, arts and crafts, games and traditional foods from across the archipelago. It’s a good way to experience Indonesia’s diverse culture in Vancouver.
Where and When
In 2025 the festival takes place on Sunday, August 24th, in the north plaza outside the Vancouver Art Gallery which is located at 750 Hornby Street. The events happens from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to join the festivities. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to explore the food, cultural activities and live performances throughout the day.
What to Expect
Visitors can taste authentic Indonesian dishes and drinks from a variety of food vendors such as Panasbung, Wat-a-melon, Neng’s Kitchen, Warung Betawi and others. Attendees can expect sizzling satay, aromatic noodles, rich curries, tropical beverages and sweet treats that capture the flavors of Indonesia.
The festival also features official Indonesian product vendors offering handmade, sustainable and halal-certified items such as batik scarves, stylish hijabs, natural cosmetics, artisan foods and eco-friendly gifts.
On stage, people can enjoy a mix of cultural performances including traditional dances, pencak silat demonstrations, gamelan music and modern live music. Attendees can also participate in fun games, enjoy arts and crafts, and celebrate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day.
Special activities at the event include a grand prize giveaway: a round-trip premium economy ticket from Vancouver to Jakarta, courtesy of festival partner EVA Air.
With various things to see, taste and experience, the Indonesian Festival promises an interesting and lively celebration for all ages.
