Vancouver Mysteries

Ghost Patrol Game with Vancouver Mysteries

Vancouver Mysteries’ offers a variety of virtual, indoor and outdoor games for all ages. Their newest mission is Ghost Patrol. It’s an outdoor adventure in downtown Vancouver.

As its name suggests, Ghost Patrol is all about ghosts. Players take on the role of paranormal investigators and visit four different hauntings. It’s like you and your friends get to be your own Ghostbusting team!

With the game, players meet at the start with the gamemaster, who is a real person. He or she explains the rules, provides you with all the ghost-tracking tools you’ll need, and then sends you off on your adventure. You report back to them again at the end, after you’ve accomplished your mission (or after you’ve almost finished it but run out of time)! The session lasts for up to 2.5 hours from start to finish. You earn points based on what you’ve accomplished and your level of success.

There are multiple challenges to complete and clues to find throughout the game. Participants have to crack coded messages from ghosts. There are also stories from the 1900s about specific buildings and historic sites in Vancouver. The game is a fun way to learn about the city’s past while also exploring its downtown neighbourhoods.

Where is the Game Played

Ghost Patrol takes place in the core of downtown Vancouver, in the area between the waterfront, Thurlow Street, Georgia Street and Richards Street. Landmarks you’ll pass during the course of your game include Waterfront Station, the Harbour Centre and Vancouver Lookout, and Christ Church Cathedral. Other places of interest you’ll walk by include the Bill Reid Gallery and Hotel Vancouver, plus streets like Granville and Burrard.

Game Level of Difficulty

Ghost Patrol isn’t an easy game. In fact, it’s described as the most challenging outdoor mystery game that Vancouver Mysteries has to offer. With that in mind, plus the spooky subject matter, Ghost Patrol is recommended for ages 12 and above. Expect to be challenged!

If you’re looking for an outdoor activity to do with younger children, or just an easier experience for adults, then check out Vancouver Mysteries’ Heroes & Villains game. They have a family-friendly version of that adventure, that’s good for kids ages 6 and older to do with adults, plus a regular version for folks ages 12 and older.

Other challenging games, but ones that are slightly less tricky for most players, are Crime in Downtown (which is a murder mystery where you get to be detectives) and Secret Mission (where you get to be secret agents and save the world).

The adult version of Heroes & Villains is definitely the easiest in the series of games for adults, at least in our opinion. Ghost Patrol is the most difficult. Secret Mission and Crime in Downtown are in the middle (but still pretty challenging). With the more difficult games, don’t be surprised if you don’t get 100%!

Note: Everyone is different. Some games are easier for some people and others are more difficult. The more people in your group, the more ideas and different ways of thinking you’ll have on your team! Be prepared to use your imagination and best problem-solving skills, and think outside the box!

Tips & Advice

Below are some suggestions to help you make the most out of your Vancouver Mysteries adventure experience.

TIP #1: You’ll receive a bag full of the equipment you’ll need to accomplish your mission. Empty the bag and check its contents. Inspect it all closely. That way, when you’re trying to solve a clue later on, remembering what’s in your bag might help you solve the problem faster.

TIP #2: Make sure all your team members see what’s in the bag at the start, not just one or two people.

TIP #3: If you haven’t played an escape room before, or don’t consider yourself very good at them, then consider playing Heroes & Villain first. It’s much easier. Ghost Patrol is pretty challenging. It’s fun, but definitely challenging.

TIP #4: Play with people who think differently from you. It will increase your chances of solving clues.
