Vancouver’s Made in the 604 Markets at the Shipyards
Made in the 604 Markets happen at both Heritage Hall in Vancouver and at the Shipyards in North Vancouver about once a month, plus or minus. They don’t happen regularly at fixed times and dates, which is why they are called pop-up markets. That being said, at the North Vancouver location, since a couple of years ago, the market does take place every Friday in the summer during the Shipyards Night Market. At other times of the year, however, they happen just once or twice a month with dates announced sometimes just a few weeks in advance.
When Made in the 604 Markets happen in North Vancouver they take place at the Pipe Shop at the Shipyards. The Pipe Shop’s address is 115 Victory Ship Way. It’s at the bottom of Lonsdale Avenue. The Pipe Shop is a heritage building that’s used for lots of events, including artisan markets.
Where is the Shipyards District
The Shipyards District is a trendy and vibrant neighbourhood at the waterfront in North Vancouver. It’s close to Lonsdale Quay and the SeaBus terminal. It’s also where you’ll find the splash park and ice-skating venue at Shipyard Commons, the Burrard Drydock Pier, and lots of restaurants including The Lobby, Tap & Barrel, JOEY and Pier 7. Overlooking the Shipyards District is the Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier. Its address is 138 Victory Ship Way.
The Shipyards District is also where you’ll find lots of great events throughout the year. Some happen outdoors at Shipbuilders’ Square, some are indoors at the Pipe Shop, and others take place all over the area.
The Shipyards is an interesting place to explore any time of the year, but especially when there are special events happening, like artisan markets at the Pipe Shop!
Parking In the Area
There is free parking on streets in the surrounding neighbourhood. You might have to go a couple of blocks up the hill, and walk a few blocks to get back down to the waterfront. Parking on the side of the street is free though, but only for one or two hours until 6:00 pm depending on where you park.
There is also a fair bit of parkade parking in the area. You’ll find it right at the Shipyards, under Shipyard Commons (which is the big outdoor covered area). There is also pay parking at the Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier on Victory Ship Way, at Lonsdale Quay Public Market in the 100 block of Carrie Cates Court, and in the old ICBC parkade on Rogers Avenue at 151 West Esplanade.
Note: The Pipe Shop is only about a 5-minute walk from the SeaBus terminal at Lonsdale Quay, which is just a 15-minute boat ride from downtown Vancouver. If you take public transit you won’t have to worry about parking.
What to Expect at the Made in the 604 Markets
When the Made in the 604 Market is taking place the Pipe Shop is full of artisan vendors selling all kinds of handmade things. There are handcrafted food products, like chocolates and salsas, and craft distillery beverages too. There is also everything from greeting cards to knitted goods, candles, soaps and all kinds of one-of-a-kind items.
