Vancouver Breakout Festival

Vancouver Breakout Festival

The Vancouver Breakout Festival was a Hip-Hop music festival that happened two times a year. The last concerts took place at the PNE in September 2022.

Unfortunately, this festival isn’t happening anymore. When it did though it featured some of the best Hip-Hop artists around. In 2022 the headlining artist on September 17th was Trippie Red. On September 18th the headlining artist was supposed to be Lil Baby, but he cancelled his performance at the last minute (which resulted in fans rioting and causing lots of damage).

Vancouver Breakout Music Festival

The Vancouver Breakout Festival was a Hip-Hop festival showcasing some of the genre’s biggest artists. According to the event’s main Facebook page, the Breakout Festival is the only bi-annual Hip-Hop festival in all of Canada.

Breakout concerts  happened in the summer and fall or winter each year. The events were popular and usually sold out.

In addition to the concerts, the Vancouver Breakout Festival featured areas for adults-only. There was a bar serving alcoholic beverages and there was also a special VIP viewing area. All ages were welcome to the festival, but only folks ages 19 and above could access the adults-only areas.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021. After a two-year hiatus, Vancouver Breakout returned on the weekend of September 17th and 18th in 2022. Doors opened at 2:00 pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. The shows began at 3:00 pm each day.

The performances took place at the Pacific National Exhibition Amphitheatre. The venue is located at 2901 East Hastings Street.

2022 Performers

In 2019 there were two Vancouver Breakout Festivals. Headliners for the June event were A$AP Rocky and Rae Sremmurd. The winter edition of the event featured Schoolboy Q and DaBaby.

The September 2022 Breakout Festival featured other big names in Hip-Hop. Lil Uzi Vert was originally scheduled to headline the first day of that year’s festival. However, he withdrew and was replaced by Trippie Redd. The second day of the festival was supposed to feature Lil Baby, but he cancelled just before he was supposed to take the stage. Unfortunately, the crowds became hostile and damaged the PNE venue in frustration.

Admission

In 2022 Vancouver Breakout Festival tickets ranged from between $170 and $380. General admission tickets didn’t come with any special perks. However, VIP tickets came with wristbands that granted access to a private bar and premium washrooms. There was also a VIP viewing area close to the stage with great views of the performances.

General admission for just one day of the festival cost about $170. This was the right option for those only interested in one of the lineups. Single day VIP passes were also available at a cost of about $230.

For folks who wanted to attend both days of the festival, two-day passes were also available. Regular tickets valid for the whole weekend cost about $330 each, whereas VIP passes for the weekend cost about $380.
