Abbotsford Agrifair in 2021

Abbotsford Agrifair Amusement Rides

The Abbotsford Agrifair is an agricultural fair that features amusement rides, 4-H shows, live music and other activities at Exhibition Park in August.

In 2021 the event is taking place on the BC Day Long Weekend of July 30 to August 1. The fair was originally set to be in a drive-thru format for the second consecutive year due to COVID-19. However, in mid-July the festival changed to being properly in-person with the loosening of provincial COVID restrictions.

Along with the fair itself during the day, the site is also hosting a drive-in movie each night of the event. The best part is that all of it is free!

As of late July, all tickets to the fair in 2021 are sold out!

Agricultural Fair in Abbotsford

Billing itself as the “biggest little country fair since 1909,” the Abbotsford Agrifair is an annual event in the Fraser Valley which is one of, if not the, most important farming regions in the Lower Mainland.

Abbotsford is in the heart of farm country and the event is a major community affair. Vancouver’s Best Places is a proud media sponsor of the event.

Agrifair Dates & Location

In 2021 the Abbotsford Agrifair takes place in Abbotsford on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of July 30 to August 1 which is also the BC Day Long Weekend. While the event is free, due to capacity restrictions you must still book a ticket online or you won’t be allowed in.

The Agrifair is held at the Abbotsford Exhibition Park at 32470 Haida Drive. The festival runs from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm each day.

For tickets and more information see the Abbotsford Agrifair website.

Agrifair Admission Rates

In 2020 admission was $15 per carload for the Drive Thru Safari. In 2021 the event is entirely FREE! This includes both the experience during the day and the drive-in movies at night. You must still reserve tickets, however.

In years when there isn’t a pandemic and the fair operates as it usually does, general admission to the fair is about $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and free for children ages 10 and under. These prices are a fabulous deal as they include admission to most venues, including the lumberjack shows, demolition derby and other performances.

Also in a typical year, 3-day weekend passes are available at around $18 per person and they provide in-and-out privileges. Rides are extra and parking costs around $5 or so per vehicle (with no in-and-out privileges unless you pay extra for the full weekend).

Note: As of July 26th, all tickets for the Abbotsford Agrifair in 2021 are sold out! If you don’t already have a ticket you’ll have to wait until next year!

Amusement Ride Rates

The original plan for 2021 was for there to not be the usual amusement rides. However, the late update to the plans in July has meant that there will in fact be the standard Shooting Star rides for all three days.

Individual tickets for the rides at the Abbotsford Agrifair typically cost about $1.25 each or $25 for a book of 20. Little kid-type rides typically take between 3 and 4 tickets and more serious rides require between 4 and 5. The most expensive ride is the Zipper which usually costs 6 tickets per trip.

All-day wristbands are also available for $35. These give unlimited access to all the rides. If you’re wanting to hang out on the Zipper or some of the other rides all day, this is a comparatively good deal.

Note: Shooting Star Amusements’ ride tickets are non-refundable, so don’t buy more than you need. The tickets never expire, however, so if you don’t use them all up you can use them at the Abbotsford Agrifair another day, another year or even at a whole other event in the future.

Agrifair Events & Activities

There is so much to see and do at the Abbotsford Agrifair. There is something for everyone in fact, which makes it a fabulous multi-generational event. While 2021 is a little different than most past years, there are still some fun things to see. Here is what’s on offer this year:

  • Global FMX Bike Show – impressive motocross jumping and other vehicular stunts.
  • Demolition Derby – a series of entertaining events featuring cars racing around a track and crashing into one another.
  • Midway Amusement Rides – there is a good selection of rides at the Abbotsford Agrifair including a Ferris Wheel and other traditional carnival attractions.
  • Curbside Circus  a roving crew of jugglers, acrobats, stilt-walkers and more.
  • Fraser Valley Antique Farm and Machinery Display – a fascinating collection of old farm equipment and a look back at local history.
  • Cinemazoo – not your ordinary collection of animals, these four-legged or winged friends are talented and ready to perform.
  • Brickville – these certified LEGO professionals have some fantastic displays to share, and there are to be some LEGO giveaways as well.
  • BC DeLorean – a collection of famous movie cars including Herbie the Love Bug, the Jurassic Park Jeep and yes, Doc Brown’s DeLorean.
  • Bison and Buffalo – Two of North America’s signature animals, they are quite impressive to see up close and in person.
  • Military Display – veterans are on hand to show some of the vehicles they use and what life in camp looks like.

Drive-In Movies

As well, every night at 9:30 pm there’s a free drive-in movie at the Agrifair site. You do still have to reserve tickets in advance, with the same single-car booking as for the fair itself. The organizers ask that you arrive 15 minutes before the start of the movie. Here are the films on offer:

  • Friday, July 30th – Jurassic Park
  • Saturday, July 31st – Back to the Future
  • Sunday, August 1st – Toy Story 4

Concert Stage Entertainment

One of the biggest additions to the 2021 schedule with the updated restrictions is the return of the Main Stage concert series. It comes free with your admission, so bring your own lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the shows. Here are the main acts performing in 2021:

Agrifair Video

Below is a video showcasing some of the events and activities at the Abbotsford Agrifair most years.

Included in the video are views from the Ferris wheel, Richard’s Racers pig races, the demolition derby and motocross jumping stunts. Also featured in the video is the RCMP Musical Ride which visited the Agrifair in 2018.

Things not included in the video are the lumberjack shows, evening concerts, animal displays and lots of other fun stuff.

There are so many amazing things to see and do at the Agrifair.

Tips and Advice

Below are some tips and suggestions to help you make the most out of your visit to the Abbotsford Agrifair the next time you can go without having to stay in your car.

TIP #1: Don’t forget that Midway rides cost usually just $2 on the Friday between 12:00 and 3:00 pm. At all other times regular ride attraction rates apply. This might not be the cast in 2021, however.

TIP #2: We highly recommend the Global FMX Motocross events (in years when they take place). The motorcycle jumps and stunts are amazing! The Demolition Derby can be pretty fun to watch too.

TIP #3: If you want a seat in the bleachers for the Global FMX Motocross or Demolition Derby events, get to the respective venues early, and well before show time. On busy days and at popular times, the seats fill up quickly.

TIP #4: If you have young children with sensitive ears, consider letting them use ear plugs or ear protectors of some kind. Most children will love the show, but it can get pretty loud and folk with extra-sensitive hearing may want to cover their ears.

TIP #5: Take a hat and sunscreen and be sure to keep hydrated if it’s a sunny day. It can get hot out in Abbotsford!
