Salmon Sessions Music Festival Fundraiser for the Little Campbell Salmon Hatchery
The Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club is home to the Little Campbell Salmon Hatchery. The not-for-profit society raises and releases over 100,000 salmon fry every year. The fish play an important role in the province’s food infrastructure.
The hatchery requires urgent and costly reconstruction. Together with the help of the Penmar Community Arts Society, the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club hosts the Salmon Sessions Music Festival. It’s a fundraiser for the hatchery and a fun celebration of local music.
The one-day festival, which debuted in 2023, happens in the summer. The event features live rock, funk and country music by local bands on an outdoor stage.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. There’s also a beverage garden with various beers, wines and non-alcoholic drinks. Food vendors are on site as well. Visitors are able to tour the hatchery at the event and learn more about the importance of the river.
For full details about the event, see the Penmar Community Arts Society‘s website.
Where and When?
The third annual Salmon Sessions Music Festival takes place on Saturday, August 23rd, in 2025. Last year it ran from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The times for 2025 will likely be similar, but are to be confirmed.
The festival is held at the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club which is located at 1284-184th Street in South Surrey. The venue is on a 29-acre property that features all sorts of trails, indoor ranges and more. It’s just north of Hazelmere Golf Club and south of the Hazelmere Pumpkin Patch. The club is also less than 10 minutes east of White Rock by car.
Entertainment Lineup
The lineup of performers at the 2024 festival is listed below. These are all great bands!
- Daniel Wesley – a White Rock musician who combines rock, folk and reggae into his performances.
- Fionn – an indie pop duo comprised of twin sisters. Brianne and Allanna Finn-Morris have become a staple of local music festivals.
- Antonio Larosa – winner of the 2023 BC Country Music Award Roots/Canadiana artist of the year. He plays with a full country rock band.
- Brass Camel – a 10-member band based in Vancouver that combines brass instruments and rock with high-energy music.
- Camaro 67 – another Vancouver band, Camaro 67 is a nostalgic-sounding group with rock & roll and funk.
Note: The bands performed outdoors on a stage. The photos of Antonio Larosa and Fionn in this article are from a festival launch event where the musicians played inside the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club’s clubhouse.
Event Ticket Details
Last year early-bird tickets started at $30 for adults and $10 for children and youth ages 18 and younger. General admission up until the event cost $45 for adults and $20 for children and youth. 2025 will likely be similar.
When making a ticket purchase online, attendees are encouraged to add a donation to their ticket amount (for which they will receive a tax receipt for donations of $20 or more). If you donate $20 or $30 per ticket, it brings the total to just $50 or $60, which is still a fabulous price for this sort of event.
For full details about the event, see the penmar.ca website.
Raffle and 50/50 Draws
From early August until the end of the month, the Salmon Sessions Music Festival also hosts a raffle and a 50/50 draw! Funds raised help support the Little Campbell Salmon Hatchery.
Last year the raffle prize was one roundtrip flight for two people to any WestJet destination. Tickets to enter the draw cost $20 each, $50 for three, or $100 for 10. Tickets for the 50/50 draw cost the same, except the winner received half of the total jackpot.
For more details about both draws, visit the Penmar Community Arts Society website.
