The Pinoy Fiesta is a festival celebrating the Philippines, Filipinos and Filipino culture at Vancouver’s Memorial South Park in August.
In 2018 the event took place on August 26th from 9 am until 7 pm.
Pinoy Fiesta Vancouver
The Pinoy Fiesta is one of a couple of major Filipino events in the Lower Mainland each year. The other main festival celebrating Filipino culture is the Philippine Days Festival which takes place in North Vancouver in June.
The Philippine Days Festival claims to be “British Columbia’s biggest celebration of Philippine Arts and Cultural Heritage.” The Pinoy Fiesta, meanwhile, claims to be “the most awaited and biggest Filipino cultural event in Canada.” Both are fairly big and draw large crowds of Vancouver Filipino residents.
Where and When
The Pinoy Fiesta takes place at Memorial South Park which is located at 5955 Ross Street near the corner with 41st Avenue in Vancouver. It’s close to Mountain View Cemetery and just a 5-minute drive southeast of Queen Elizabeth Park.
The festival takes place in late August. In 2018 it was on Sunday, August 26th. In 2017 it was on Sunday, August 13th. Both years it started at 9 o’clock in the morning. In 2018 it finished at 7 pm and the year before it wrapped up a couple of hours later.
What to Expect
At the Pinoy Fiesta you can expect to see dozens of community organization information booths and hundreds if not thousands of Filipinos.
There is a small parade in the morning. It’s basically a procession of community groups going around the park’s running track. Some groups are in traditional costumes, some play music and all have a banner advertising their organization.
During the day there is live entertainment on the main stage. There are also various exhibits and food vendors spread out around the main field at the park.
