Burnaby’s Holy Cross Christmas Market

Holy Cross Christmas Craft Market

The Holy Cross Christmas Market features artisan vendors, Christmas crafts and baked goods in North Burnaby at Holy Cross Elementary School in mid-November.

In years when it happens the event takes place in the school’s gym and includes about 40 vendor tables (or at least it does in years when there isn’t a global pandemic).

The market didn’t happen in 2020 or 2021 because of the pandemic, and it isn’t happening in 2022 either. Whether it happens again in the future is to be determined. Maybe, maybe not. If it does happen again though, it won’t likely be for a few years.

Holy Cross Christmas Craft Market

Hosted and sponsored by the Holy Cross Catholic Women’s League, the Holy Cross Christmas Market features craft vendors selling all sorts of goods. At the event there are also raffle prizes, a 50-50 draw and a Christmas Café selling everything from sandwiches to soup, baked goods and beverages.

The market is a fundraising event for the Catholic Women’s League. Any profits made benefit Holy Cross Church, Holy Cross School and various other charities supported by the group such as Union Gospel Mission, the Domestic Abuse Society and Talitha Khoum.

When and Where

The market used to happen in mid-November. In 2019 it was on the weekend of November 16th and 17th. On the Saturday the market ran from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. On the Sunday it went from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.

The event didn’t happen in 2020 because of COVID-19, and it was also cancelled in 2021 and 2022. Details for the market in future years is to be determined.

In years when it does happen, the event takes place in the gymnasium at Holy Cross Elementary School at 1450 Delta Avenue in North Burnaby which is about halfway between Hastings Street and the Lougheed Highway (and just a 3-minute drive from Brentwood Town Centre).

What to Expect

At the market local artisans sell a variety of hand-crafted creations. There are Christmas ornaments, homemade preserves, greeting cards, jewellery and baked goods, plus knitted, crocheted and sewn items.

The event also features a number of raffle gift baskets full of wonderful things. Raffle tickets cost $2 for one or three for $5.

Also at the market, ladies from the Holy Cross Catholic Women’s League usually make Italian cookies called pizzelle. The cookies are delicious and proceeds from their sale benefits Covenant House which is a charitable organization that helps homeless youth.
