Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford features a trail around the water, picnic and play areas for families to enjoy, and the Centennial Outdoor Swimming Pool.
Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford
Mill Lake Park surrounds Mill Lake and offers different activities for people of all ages. A 2.1 km trail loops around the lake and makes for a great walk, run or cycle. The route is mostly flat and paved, and therefore both family-friendly and accessible.
There is a neat boardwalk over the water. From the area, on clear days, you can catch a glimpse of Mt. Baker in the distance. The lake also has a separate wharf, with both canoeing and fishing allowed. Dogs, when on leash, are welcome too.
Other amenities at Mill Lake Park include large play and picnic areas, multiple playgrounds, baseball diamonds, a water spray park and an outdoor swimming pool. The park makes for an enjoyable outing with nature and various fun activities. In spring there are cherry blossoms and flowers. In autumn there are beautiful fall colours.
Park Location and Parking
The park is located in the middle of Abbotsford. There are multiple entrances, including one at the intersection of Bevan Avenue and Primrose Street, with a free parking lot close to a large play area. Another way to enter the park is from across the M.S.A. Arena on Emerson Street and Peardonville Road, where there is free parking close to the baseball diamonds and the Centennial Outdoor Pool.
Mill Lake Park is less than a ten-minute drive away from Abbotsford’s Exhibition Park, which is where the Abbotsford Agrifair typically takes place. The Abbotsford Farm and Country Market‘s usual location is also just a short drive from Mill Lake.
The Centennial Outdoor Pool
This outdoor pool is located on the west side of Mill Lake Park. It is home to the Abbotsford Whalers Swim Club. The pool is also open to the public most days during the summer.
Centennial Pool is twenty-five meters long and offers daily public swim times as well as lessons for all ages. Swimming in this pool doesn’t offer amazing views like the pools at Kitsilano or Second Beach. The Abbotsford pool though is only a short walk from serene Mill Lake. There is also a spray park close by for kids to enjoy.
Centennial Pool Prices
As of the summer of 2019, swimming rates were approximately $4 for adults, $3 for teens and seniors, $2.50 for children older than three, and $9 for families. A Toonie Swim special usually happens weekly as well. The pool was closed for the entire 2020 season because of COVID-19.
