Winter Holiday Art Exhibitions at Place des Arts
This article has information about the Positively Petite miniature exhibition, two other exhibitions happening at the same time, the centre’s Holiday Artisan Shop, and the opening reception for it all.
Place des Arts itself is a non-profit arts centre located at 1120 Brunette Avenue in Coquitlam. The centre is where you can take classes on art, drama, music and theatre. They also host art exhibitions and other special events.

About the Positively Petite Miniature Exhibition
Been looking for something small to lighten up the house, or a cute gift for a friend? Positively Petite might just have something to offer. At this exhibition, the articles don’t just depict small things. The pieces themselves are all tiny as well!
Positively Petite is an exhibition with both 2D and 3D pieces, and it supports local programs and artists. All sales at the show support the artists and the programs offered by Place des Arts.
Psychological Symbolism by Alex Lavrov
By means of metaphors, symbolism and abstract concepts, Alex Lavrov explores what it means to feel human. The pieces at this exhibit explore different emotions and concepts. The artist, Alex Lavrov, examines the human subconscious separately from cultural bias.
This exhibit is open from October 31st until December 18th. To learn more about it, click Psychological Symbolism by Alex Lavrov.
Flowing with the Flow by Mitchell Seeyu
This exhibit is created by Mitchell Seeyu. Her traditional painting style of Chinese “Mogu” embodies the flair of North American landscapes and animalia. When she immigrated from China years ago, Mitchell was touched by the vibrant colour of life in British Columbia which has had an influence on her art.

Positively Petite Opening Reception
In November each year there is an opening reception for the Positively Petite art exhibition which features food, music and a chance to meet some of the artists. After that, from mid-November until just before Christmas, the art centre is open for people to drop by and see a wide variety of art on display. Admission to both the reception and then to see the art in the following weeks is free.
The opening reception marks the start of Positively Petite miniature exhibition, but also the start of a couple of other art exhibitions and the beginning of the season for the centre’s Holiday Artisan Shop. In 2025 the reception took place on November 14th. It will likely take place around the same time in 2026.
Holiday Artisan Market
While the artwork is arguably the highlight of the exhibitions, there is also the artisan market at the venue. For some, that’s actually what they go for.
The Artisan Shop is where you’ll find hand-made kitchenware, accessories, beauty and other products throughout the year. During November and December they also offer the Holiday Artisan Market which features all sorts of holiday-themed treasures that make great gifts and souvenirs.
