During the summer you can experience free outdoor movie showings on a big screen at Richmond’s Lansdowne Centre Mall on Wednesday nights.

Outdoor Movie Nights at Lansdowne Mall

Lansdowne Centre Mall is one of the biggest malls in Richmond. It has a massive parking lot that turns into a drive-in movie theatre in the summer and/or early fall. The outdoor movie nights typically take place for around a month at some point from July to September. In 2024 there is a movie every Wednesday night from July 10th to 31st.

The mall is located at 5300 No. 3 Road. Tickets cost $25 per vehicle, with some of the proceeds supporting Canadian Blood Services. The tickets don’t come with specifics parking spots reserved, so for the best view you need to arrive a little early. For those who want to buy snacks or drinks from the mall, it closes at 7:00 pm on Wednesdays.

The movies begin at sunset which is around 9:30 pm in early July and around 9:15 pm at the end of the month.

There are four drive-in movie nights for the 2024 season. The schedule for this year is listed below. All dates and movies are subject to change.

July 10th, 2024 – Grease
July 17th, 2024 – Barbie
July 24th, 2024 – Lion King
July 31st, 2024 – Jurassic Park

More Places to Enjoy Free Outdoor Movies

There are plenty of places to enjoy free outdoor movies during the summer. Some of the biggest ones are Stanley Park Summer Cinema at Second Beach, Sunset Cinema at Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza, Summer Movie Nights outside the Vancouver Art Gallery and Deckchair Cinema at Cates Deck in North Vancouver.

Lansdowne Centre is also not the only drive-in theatre in Metro Vancouver (for now, at least). Twilight Drive-In Theatre in Langley is a dedicated drive-in theatre venue that runs multiple times a week from the early spring to late fall. It shows all the latest blockbusters as well! Sadly, the 2024 season is its last before it closes permanently.
