St. John's Street on Port Moody Car Free Day

Port Moody Car Free Day is a free community event where people, vendors, entertainers and kid-friendly activities take over St. Johns Street in Port Moody.

Port Moody Car Free Day takes place on Sunday, August 17th, 2025. As of mid-July, additional details are still to be confirmed.

Other events in the Lower Mainland this time of year normally include Ribfest Langley, Symphony in the Park in Abbotsford and the Chilliwack Corn Maze at Greendale Acres. There’s also the PNE Fair and Shipyards Night Market.

Other events taking place in the Tri-Cities region in August 2025 include the BC Dumpling Festival and Vancouver Water Lantern Festival.

Car Free Day in Port Moody

A number of Car Free Day events take place in the Lower Mainland including in Vancouver on Main Street, Denman Street and Commercial Drive. Since a few years ago, Port Moody has had its own event celebrating pedestrians in mid-August.

 

When and Where

Port Moody celebrates its fifth annual event on Sunday, August 17th in 2025. Car Free Day happens along St. Johns Street between Queens Street and Moody Street from noon until 5:00 pm.

 

What to Expect

At Port Moody Car Free Day you can expect to see artisan, local business and community organization booths, as well as bands playing live music, food vendors, a beer garden and family-friendly activities.

There are two different stages for live entertainment at the 2025 event. Below is the lineup from this year.

 

Main Stage (2025)

  • 12:00 pm Cookin with Brass
  • 12:45 pm – Opening Ceremony
  • 1:20 pm Front Page Band
  • 2:10 pm – Feel Good Yoga Flow with WESTPRO Physio
  • 2:25 pm Etienne Siew
  • 3:15 pm – Music with Marnie
  • 4:00 pm – West Coast Circus Live Demonstration
  • 4:15 pm Brehdren

The video was filmed at the event in August 2018 which was a time when BC was experiencing one of its worst forest fire seasons ever. The air quality was rated exceptionally poor on the day, which explains the grey skies and fewer than normal people on the street.

 

 

Tips & Advice

Below are some suggestions to help you make the most out of your Car Free Day experience in Port Moody.

TIP #1: It’s a car free event, so leave your vehicle at home if you can. You can also ride your bike if you don’t live too far away.

TIP #2: There is a free shuttle bus that runs about once every 30 minutes between Rocky Point Park at 2800 Murray Street and the Port Moody Rec Centre at 300 Ioco Road.

TIP #3: There is a nice walking path between the Rec Centre and the park if you don’t want to wait for the bus.
