Port Moody hosts its annual Terry Fox Run on a Sunday in mid-September at Rocky Point Park as a fundraiser to support cancer research.
The 2025 Terry Fox Run happens on Sunday, September 14th. That’s the same day as the Terry Fox Hometown Run in Port Coquitlam which is also an awesome event (and it takes place in the city where Terry Fox attended high school).
Port Moody Terry Fox Run
Communities across Canada host Terry Fox Runs on the second Sunday after Labour Day to spread awareness and raise funds to help in the battle against cancer. Around 24 events happen in the Vancouver area each year. Check out Vancouver Terry Fox Runs to find one near you.
Last year was the first year post-pandemic that the Port Moody event took place as a live, in-person event. This year the Terry Fox Run at Rocky Point Park is on Sunday, September 14th. Registration opens at 8:30 am and the run starts at 10:00 am. The event wraps up by around noon.
In 2025 there are three routes to choose from at the Port Moody Terry Fox Run. Runners can do either a 2 km, 5 km or 10 km circuit. The three routes are in the same general area but have different turnaround points. All options are suitable for walking, running or cycling, and dogs on leash are welcome.
Registration for the event is free. Since this is a fundraising event, participants are asked to make a donation and/or gather pledges from friends and family members to support the cause.
All funds raised at the event go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research. The Port Moody run has, in the past, collected around $11,000 in pledges.
Who Was Terry Fox?
Terry Fox hailed from Winnipeg, MB. He was a Canadian athlete and humanitarian known for his courageous Marathon of Hope. After losing his leg to cancer at 18, he set out to run across Canada in 1980 to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Running with a prosthetic leg, he covered 5,373 kms in 143 days before the cancer spread and forced him to stop. Terry’s determination, humility and bravery captured the nation’s heart. Though he passed away at just 22, his legacy lives on through annual Terry Fox Runs held worldwide, raising over $850 million for cancer research. He remains a national hero.
