Port Moody on Remembrance Day

On November 11th Port Moody has a Remembrance Day service, parade and ceremony followed by live entertainment and social time with veterans at the Legion.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, no Remembrance Day ceremonies or parades were held for the public in Port Moody in 2020 and 2021. Fortunately, the 2022 ceremonies are open to the public once again.

Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Port Moody

Remembrance Day in Port Moody begins with an inter-faith, non-denominational service. In 2022 this takes place at 10:00 am at the Kyle Centre at 125 Kyle Street.

Following the service, there is usually a parade and ceremony at the Port Moody Arts Centre at 2425 St. Johns Street. However, the parade location and route is different in 2022. This year, the procession begins outside the Port Moody Legion located at 2529 Clarke Street. The route heads east, turns right at Mary Street, right at St. Johns Street, right at Kyle Street, and finally turns right one last time to get back to the Port Moody Legion building.

In the afternoon and evening there is also usually live entertainment at 2529 Clarke Street. This is the case again in 2022.

Activities at the Legion

The Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #119) invites the community to join their Remembrance Day celebrations after the city’s formal service and parade and to help them pay respect to Port Moody’s veterans.

Below is what the entertainment schedule looked like at the Legion on November 11th in 2019. The schedule and performers for 2022 are to be confirmed.

  • 1:00 pm – SFU Pipe and Drum Band
  • 2:00 pm – the Heather Jolley Scottish Tartan Dancers
  • 3:00 to 5:00 pm – Linda Szentes and the Jazz Links
  • 5:00 to 8:00 pm – the Inlet Jazz Band
