The Steveston Santa Claus Parade is an annual tradition in Richmond. It’s a free and family-friendly event that’s usually held on Christmas Eve most years.
Last year’s event happened much earlier in the month than normal. It took place on Saturday, December 7th. 2025 details are to be confirmed, but will likely be similar to past years.
The parade is one of a number of Christmas-themed events that happen in the neighbourhood. Others include Christmas in Steveston Village (where the above photo was taken) and the Steveston Festival of Trees.

Santa Claus Parade in Steveston
The Santa Claus Parade is a long-running community event in Steveston. It’s been happening around Christmas time for more than 40 years. The parade is free to attend. However, the Richmond Food Bank and Richmond Firefighters Charitable Fund happily accept and really appreciate any donations. If you can, please bring cash or non-perishable food items to contribute.

Santa Claus Parade Route
The Steveston Santa Claus Parade route winds through Steveston Village which is in the southwest corner of Richmond.
Last year’s parade began outside of Lord Byng Elementary School, at Georgia Street and Second Avenue. It first headed up Second Avenue before going west along Regent Street, then turning left onto Sixth Avenue. From there, the parade gradually made its way south while snaking from block to block. Eventually, the procession reacheed Chatham Street and ended at Garry Point Park. The 2025 parade route will likely be similar, though details are to be confirmed.
See the Steveston Santa Parade Route for a map of last year’s route, which could be similar in 2025.

Tips & Advice
The following tips will help you make the most of your experience at the parade.
TIP #1: Dress for the weather. The parade is outdoors. Unless you’re planning on watching through the window of a store or a restaurant, you’ll likely be standing outside. Bring lots of layers and get yourself a hot beverage.
TIP #2: If travelling from outside of Richmond, it’s a good idea to arrive early and explore the city. Steveston Village is a beautiful and interesting place to check out, with wonderful walking and cycling trails to enjoy. Plus, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery is always worth a visit. The cannery’s Steveston Festival of Trees event is on throughout December. On the day of the parade, the historic site is open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
