Chilliwack’s Botanica Tulip Flower Festival in the Fraser Valley

The Botanica Tulip Festival is a new event in the spring of 2024. It happens at the former location of the Chilliwack Tulip Festival in the Fraser Valley.

The new Botanica Tulip Festival is beautiful, with around 1.5 million bulbs in 13 or so acres of fields. The festival is the only one in the region with a Ferris Wheel (which complements the attraction nicely). It’s also the only one where you can pick tulips to take home with you (from a designated area). What’s more? The festival is carbon negative, which is like being carbon neutral, only better. If you have an electric vehicle, they have a charging station!

Note: Due to weather damage, the Botanica Tulip Festival closed early for the season on April 29th, 2024. However, the fields are still open to see for free! The Ferris Wheel is also on site from Tuesday to Sunday.

Botanica Tulip Festival in Chilliwack in 2024

Chilliwack’s Botanica Tulip Festival happens in the spring. The venue is a farm located at 41310 Yale Road in Chilliwack. It opened on April 12th in 2024, and was going to continue until sometime in early May. Unfortunately, due to damage caused by weather, the festival officially came to an end on April 29th. Folks are still welcome to visit for free until around May 5th.

The festival features over a dozen acres of flowers which bloom at different times over the course of the season. A million and a half bulbs were planted for this year. There are close to 60 types of tulips to admire and enjoy. For the first three weeks of the festival, there’s also a Ferris wheel ride available at an additional cost. It’s on site on select dates until May 5th.

The Botanica Tulip Festival is a family-friendly event to enjoy in the spring. It’s a nice place to spend time in the outdoors and take photos. Guests can also pick and take home tulips of their choice from some of the fields. One or more food trucks are on site each day as well.

Where is the Botanica Tulip Festival

The Botanica Tulip Festival takes place at 41310 Yale Road in Chilliwack in the Fraser Valley. The farm is just off the Trans-Canada Highway about an hour’s drive from Vancouver. To get there from the city, take exit #109 and then the first right turn. From there, you’ll see the tulips and the farm’s entrance.

Admission Prices for the Botanica Tulip Festival

When it was a ticketed event, general admission to the festival ranged from $10 to $20 per person during regular hours.

The Ferris Wheel ride was $5 if you purchased your ticket for it online at the same time as you bought your admission ticket to the festival. On Weekends it cost $8. If you paid for your ride on the day at the gate it was likely a couple of dollars more. The Ferris Wheel ran Tuesdays to Sundays.

At the event folks were able to buy a full pail of u-pick tulips. That cost $40 on weekends if you paid for it in advance or $50 on the day. That was a very good deal!

Parking at the venue is always free.

About the Festival

The Chilliwack Tulip Festival was a famous flower festival. It took place from 2017 until 2023 at the same 41310 Yale Road location as the new Botanica Tulip Festival. The former festival rented the property from the Pauls who are a multigenerational farming family. The Pauls were partners in the former attraction. The other family behind the Chilliwack Tulip Festival moved to a different farm in Agassiz last year where they now host the Harrison Tulip Festival.

Interestingly, the Chilliwack Tulip Festival used to be called Tulips of the Valley. It started in Agassiz over 15 years ago, moved to Chilliwack for a few years, and then moved back to a new location in the Harrison region.

This year the Pauls Family have planted tulips on their property, at the previous festival’s original Chilliwack location. This explains why the new Botanica Tulip Festival has different hosts and the new name, but same farm venue.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES AT BOTANICA

All Lower Mainland flower festivals have cool displays like swing sets, bicycles and other objects that make excellent photo opportunities, and Botanica has its share of them, including one particularly unique one.

The old car in the photo below is “Chilliwack’s Pink Car”. It’s not just any old relic. You might even recognize it, especially if you live in the Fraser Valley. For over three decades the iconic vehicle was mounted eight metres in the air on top of the Pick-a-Part automotive car parts shop in Chilliwack. It’s a 1972 Plymouth Gold Duster. The car was a recognizable landmark in the city for years!

Botanica Flower Festival Video

The following video is of the Botanica Flower Festival in 2024. It was taken on April 17th, so about a week after the place opened for the season. As you’ll see, it was a beautiful sunny day when we went. The farm looked amazing! It couldn’t have been prettier!

In the video you’ll see a number of the displays that are popular for photo taking. There is a bicycle with views of the flowers and mountains in the background. There is also the Botanica farm truck, “Chilliwack’s Pink Car” and views of the Ferris Wheel from both the ground and from up high. Also as you’ll see, dogs are welcome at the festival.
