The Steveston Festival of Trees is a Christmas event at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site in Richmond’s Steveston Village in December.
Most years the event runs from December 1st to 31st every day except for Christmas Day from 10 am to 5 pm.
Christmas at Steveston Cannery
At Christmas time there are festive attractions throughout Metro Vancouver, and in Richmond one of the main holiday events is the Christmas at the Cannery Steveston Festival of Trees event.
For the month of December the Gulf of Georgia Cannery is home to dozens of elaborately decorated Christmas trees. The trees are designed and sponsored by local merchants and people vote for their favourites.
The Steveston Festival of Trees isn’t an attraction all on its own; rather, it’s just a very nice bonus when visiting the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Historic Site.
The regular cost of admission to the cannery in December is the following (although in 2017 it’s FREE because of Canada’s 150th birthday!):
- Adults – $7.80
- Seniors (65+) – $6.55
- Youth (6-16 years) – $3.90
- Children under 6 years – Free
- Family (up to 7 people including 2 adults) – $19.60
- Cannery Society Members – Free
TIP: Go on Sunday December 3rd, 10th or 17th between 10 am and 3 pm and you’ll get to enjoy the Cannery Farmers Market as well.
Festival of Trees Location
The Steveston Festival of Trees takes place indoors at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery which is located at 12138 Fourth Avenue in Steveston Village.
TIP: While in the area, if it’s not raining or you have an umbrella, go for a walk along the waterfront in Steveston Village. The Britannia Heritage Shipyard is just a 15 to 20-minute walk away and the route there on a nice day is beautiful.
